Re: Most courses we imagine don't exist yet, this one too...

Good stuff Jason and Titan....sort of like eavesdropping a chat between Picasso and Rembrandt deciding on their next masterpieces.

My memories of PCC construction...get help from someone who has DG brains (Steve Dodge and Titan) , work with what mother nature offers, roll up ones sleeves and get ...

Re: Tully Hole 1 BYE BYE SOON!

Titan...good stuff, thanks for the post. When I bring my grandkids to play Tully we use the alt tee, so I have both bases covered...2 kids AND 1 mentally impaired.

You park at Tully, you still get the killer view no matter where the 1st hole goes , oh well.

I remember when we built the course at ...

Re: Par 2 versus Par 3 on Really Short Holes?

Titan ... what about a short course for the kids... perfect spot might be at Athol High School behind the baseball field and behind Mann Lumber ( borders Lake Ellis)...or Mahar. Mahar school system has staff interested in disc golf (one worked with us at PCC). Get a school system to buy into DG with ...

Re: Par 2 versus Par 3 on Really Short Holes?

Titan...All I can tell you is at PCC we built a DG course to help save a BG course. Tim and I well understood that BG interest and participation was in desperate decline due to many factors. Obviously both sports have there own pros and cons and levels of comparisons, but the most obvious to me is ...

Re: Par 2 versus Par 3 on Really Short Holes?

From my BG dictionary (substantiated by Wikipedia)...."Par - The number of strokes a first - class player should normally require for a particular hole or course".

"First - class"...hmm, you guys probably have that one figured out.

"Normally"...hmm, statistics ( ie... accumulated scorecard input ...

Re: DG growth and marketing formula

Titan...The plan this summer is to hit Tully hopefully once a week, either Wed or Thurs PM around 1:15. Would be fun to connect with you if time allows , by yourself or bring your child, if you don't mind getting slowed down by a couple of noodle arms. Fond memories for me of working with you at the ...

DG growth and marketing formula

Had an 'AHA' moment playing at Tully the other day...my first time out in 3 years, with a friend playing for the first time. It quickly became obvious that DG is a sport you can play and have a lot of fun with..while at the very same time sukking at it (relative to serious DGers). What an oddity ...

Re: Wendell State Forest

Titan...the Wendell lake I was thinking of I believe was Cranberry Pond more towards N Amherst on Rt 63, thanks to a google flyover a minute ago...so if you should get going at the Ruggles Pond site, don't worry about nudists. Would be curious if any old farts out in DG land remember this besides me.

Re: Wendell State Forest

Titan... Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember going down Rt 63 to Amherst as a kid and hearing about a 'Ruggles Pond' as an active nudist swimming hole somewhere near the road to Leverett. Its been 40 years so I'm guessing I'm wrong. But it would bring up an interesting notion...nude disc golf ...

Re: Disc Golf and Ball Golf design parallels

Titan...building a course is fun , isn't it, with these kind of challenges. For what its worth, with optional routes on a hole to offer excitement and scoring potential, for me one route would offer the par 4 route with high degree of difficulty and and the other the safer par 5 route. In BG the ...

Re: Basket Flags

Titan....When you discard the old PCC flags, perhaps you should give them a proper burial with a 21 gun salute, given the death of PCC. I mean guns and ammo should be available. Or maybe just put all the flags in a box labeled with the Harvard Forest logo and blow them all to smithereens with a ...

General observation that I think is close to true...in any organization, whether volunteer or otherwise, 10% do 90% of the work...90% do 10% of the work...and most in the piss and moan section are from the 90%. The trick maybe is to have an organizational mechanism in place to put up or shut up ...

Re: Disc Golf and Ball Golf design parallels

Dave...The starting point for me involves shot shaping in both sports, since designing a hole would reflect a players tendencies and physical capabilities. I don't know enough about DG shot shaping, but in BG for me it is the beauty of the sport. Its the nature of my curiosity as to, for example ...

Dave....My memory of Tatnuck (mid-1980's)..a Ross redesign of an 1898 Willie Campbell creation, impeccable conditions, great playing surfaces, abit short, narrow, well guarded greens...mostly great holes, a couple weaker then the others which seems typical...but all and all a gem. (at the time ...

Re: 1 Day Left....

Dave...interesting idea, how would Donald Ross design a DG course, keeping it relevant to his BG design theories. As for guns, I often dreamt ...
