par 5 nine hole course

Is there any interest in a nine hole course with all holes par 5. The land is in Athens, so there will be alot of woods...some fields. Maybe players are looking for something different?

I studied Abnormal Psychology in the late 70's, but they had a limited understanding of your pathology at that time. Even the most brilliant clinical scientists of the day were still using hand-waving guesses when people with your condition presented to their offices. Perhaps we have a better understanding of your condition by now, and a therapeutic regimen...and in the interest of the disc golf community, I hope we do.

Nonetheless, I think a Nine hole par five course would be sweet. I have been wanting to take a trip up to Maine, and a course of this type would definetly make my list of must plays.

MORE par 5s? Absolutely! ALL par 5s? No, thanks.

I never liked 'Steady' Ed's steady diet of all par 3s. I suspect all 5s would get a bit monotonous as well. My mental game needs those 2,3,4 par challenges.

Disc golf should be more than "all par 3" but less than the ball golf standard of "par 72." I think a mix of half 3 and half 4 is perfect. That's par 61. Maybe 12 par 3's, 4 par 4's and 2 par 5's. That's perfect.

well, i guess i didn't realize that a simple post would generate the kind of response...as if no one read the thread to begin with. NINE HOLES would be monotonous. good thing i didn't ask about 18? letsee par 72 on 9 thAT wouold be ....everyone's average...8 strokes per hole...yep that's monotonous for sure. par 2. what is that? is thaT the way they set up holes in the city? I've seen pictures of the "pro" "wooded" courses. it's laughable. A great big field with a couple of trees between the tee and the hole. fairways so big you can drive a car through. not in maine...looks more like a deer path. :roll:

It seems that some of us who post in here from Maine not always get the response that we would like to get. Most of the people in this discussion forum are great people and they have helped me out in more ways than one. But you always get the smart A---- who want to turn your simple question into a bashing on someone else.

Keep us posted on the outcome of this endevour and I would be happy to post it in our shop here and get some of our players to come try it out.

I agree with variety is the spice of life. I'd like to see a variety of different types of courses. Pitch n Putts, Grip it and Rip it, Wide Open, Technical etc. I personally like the idea of an all par 5 course, especially if it's only 9 holes. All 18 might be a bit much, but that would also be a great course to hold challenges and tournaments.

Everyone answered the question if there is interest in a 9 hole par 5 course in Maine besides Morgan. You also asked if players are looking for something different, which people replied to. Take away what Big Moe wrote and there is a good thread here.

I answered the question. Disc golf should be a blend of par 3 and par 4. One or two par 5's is cool, but a course with all par 5 holes? As Simon Cowell would say, "That's a no."

looking at the three different possible locations for an "extreme" 9 hole...rt.3 near sheepscot lake(sloping land)....fairfield...5 miles from i-95(elevation changes/stream runs thru it...athens(lotsa wooods)...just an update :wink:
