Courses on the South Shore
Personally I lived on the south shore all of my life and I'm amazed by the lack of disc golf courses. Both Borderland and the 4C's are about an hour from my house and that's a considerable drive for a round or two of disc golf. So periodically I've been checking this site for information about courses being worked on a little closer to home.
I was wondering what progress if any has been made on the proposed courses in Plymouth, Hingham and Sandwich. Is there any chance that we'll be seeing any of this courses this summer?
Thanks,
Matt Walter

We haven't started the course in Sandwich due to the gas main that the town is putting in. We aren't allowed to do anything until they are done. No way the course is done by the summer, even if we started now I would hope to get it done by next summer. Also, have you played Burgess Park, it's like 10 minutes from 4C's in Marstons Mills. Nothing special about the course, but it's a nice pitch and putt.

Way to hype up our course Todd, remind me to make you our personal spokesperson sometime...NOT! As far as the Sandwich course, the gasline project is still on-going. For those of you who have read the DCR and Disc golf thread, there is the possibility that DG courses proposed in state park locations could receive some funding from the state; however we are just in the beginning stages...nothing set in stone yet. My main goal as of now is to try and get funding from the DCR for DG courses on state property. I'm going to a meeting at Wompatuck State Park (Hingham) on April 18th to meet with the park's "friends group" to discuss the possibility of a course at that park. David Farf Good (davidrgood@comcast.net) has arranged the meeting time, so anyone interested should attend, ..e-mail David for the meeting time and location.

This course would be a lot more fun if it were free. If you're going to charge $$ for playing, at least make an effort to maintain the course..though I understand, it's probably not high up on Normandy's priority list

Have to agree with Todd on this one. Burgess has POTENTIAL to become more than a pitch and putt, but in the end, that's what it is, a pitch and putt.
Like the saying from Popeye "I am what I am.", until we make it tougher, (and by we, I mean the regulars), it will no longer be a pitch and putt. Simple way to equate it to real ball golf is by saying that it's like an executive course or.. Pitch and Putt. It's like the Cotuit Highgrounds/Holly Ridge of ball Golf compared to like Olde Barnstable which is more like (Borderlands).
And I dont think Todd wasnt meaning not hyping the course, but I dont think it's right to also OVERhype the course, have someone come down and play it out of their way and think, hey.. " it's not as good as they said it was."
Burgess = Highly Technical, Short, Par 3 course, nothing more, nothing less.

very true. but once we redefine it, and try and make it tougher, i bet it drives away some of the unwanted down there.

Borderland rocks! I'm way thankful to play there....but the South Shore is in desperate need of a course. Let's face it, there is just too much beautiful land and sites to ignore.
I live in Santa Cruz, CA but I travel back to Randolph to see the folks 2-4 times a year. I'm thinking about setting up a renegade target course somewhere in the Blue Hill reservation this summer. Maybe even smack dab on Big Blue! Ski slope courses are do-able.

April 18th meeting at Wompatuck State Park (Hingham) to discuss the possibility/feasibility of a DG course. Meeting is at the visitor's center at 7p.m. with the park's friends group. As an aside, most state parks have what's called a "friends group" whose main agenda is improving the park for all visitors. It can be very beneficial to get a friends group behind your proposal (whatever it is). Typically, the state (DCR) will match funds for any approved project brought forth by a park's friends group.
