Fantasy MLB 2010

Post by Steve Guiliotis »

Here's the fantasy connection for NEFA-ites
forming leagues or needing members for
existing leagues blah blah blah blah blah......

Image

Let's get some leagues going! I'm good for $10

We especially need league commissioners who are hip, cool and only run leagues that have a proper set of stats which will be universally loved by old-timer fantasy gurus. Essentially, anyone who constantly complained last year, please start a league this year so that everything is done the right way and we can have a jolly good year of fantasy baseball.

Only 6-ish weeks left till opening day!

Since I've heard from none of the five guys above, I have deleted them from the league. I am opening up these five teams to anyone interested.

Here is the league home page: http://games.espn.go.com/flb/leagueoffice?leagueId=39210

The five teams available are Teams 1-5. If you're interested in a particular team, please send me an pm with your email address. I will then send you an invite. After accepting, please select five players as your "keepers", since the remaining five teams have all done so.

Draft positions will be based on last year's order of finish, which is available here:

http://games.espn.go.com/flb/tools/draftorder?leagueId=39210

Based on discussions with the remaining owners, a large number of high caliber players will be returning to the player pool, so no new owner will be at a significant competitive disadvantage. Current keeper selections can be viewed here (but are subject to change):

http://games.espn.go.com/flb/tools/showkeepers?leagueId=39210

I am looking to fill these slots as soon as possible, with a likely draft date towards the end of March.

Thanks,
Craig

PS: My apologies again to Steve, Mike, Eric, Ralph, and Allen. But based on their lack of response to my repeated inquiries into their interest for this season, I made the executive decision to remove them.

It's still so early that one bad day can knock you down. Personally, I thought that I'd have dropped out of 1st by now. Last couple days have been really weak on hitting and the averages are plummeting.

At this stage, staying close and not dropping way behind in any particular non-percentage stat is good enough no matter where you are in the standings. I almost fear being on top for an extended amount of time early because the guy that's hot in the first half has a tendency to implode in the second. Just my personal experience that doesn't reflect any actual statistics.

And THERE IT IS! Just got slammed back into the middle of the pack.

No HR's for 3 days and I sat Sabbathia last night.....DOH!

Just so you know, I have an interesting history with CC in the past. Two years back I got hammered all through the first half with him before trading him to Smolin. The day I let him go, it was like a light switch and he became a top tier pitcher afterward.

I was nervous but I went ahead and started him opening day...another bad start, oh well. Then I see his history at Tropicana Field and I get nervous. I sat him and look what happened. God I hate this guy and held my nose when I drafted him.

You know what's coming. I'm going to start him next time and he's going to implode and give up 7 ER's. Count on it!

OK Smolin.

I just got your E-mail and I'm going to respond here since I have zero trust in the ESPN system to deliver a message - remember last year?

I'm sure that everyone can remember five players from their roster but what about the peeps who aren't coming back? We'd have to guess who was on what team. Sounds messy. Looks like a redraft is going to be necessary without everyone's rosters documented from the last day of last season - assuming we continue.

I'm all for resuming or just basically starting up a new league.

Now, the bitching, griping part: As for future settings, we had a maximum number of FA moves AND a maximum of starts allowed last year. The maximum number of pitching starts thing is utter crap IMO. If I want to use up my moves using rookies or one-time favorable matchups that's my business. I realize that some purists frown upon slamming the K's and Wins statistics by sheer volume but anyone who employs that strategy runs the risk of a bloated ERA and WHIP. If I'm good at "playing the ponies" in that style and still retain a respectable WHIP and ERA, I should be rewarded for it. As long are the stats are balanced: K's WHIP Wins and ERA, there isn't a problem. I'm not forcing anyone to play my style but the "games started" pitching limit does exactly that.

Apparently, there isn't a post griping bitching part coming to mind right now. So I leave you with PLAY BALL MUTHAFARGERS!!!

Steve et al:

Haven't heard back from anyone but yourself and and Steve Campbell. I'm interested in maintaining this league, and restarting from scratch. If anyone is interested in returning or joining, please send me a pm and let me know. It's an ESPN league, and all settings and draft format are open for debate.

Primary: Roto Style
R, HR, S, RBI, AVG, OPS and W, K, Saves, Holds, ERA, WHIP
2 C, 1b, 2b, 3b, ss, ci, mi, 5 ofs, utility and 10 pitchers; 8-10 bench, 3 dl

Would like to see this become a keeper league (5-8 keepers).

Open to either snake draft or auction. Lately, I've been a convert to the auction format.

Rest of the settings are open for debate.

Hmmmmmm. My only worry would be someone failing miserably at the draft format and giving up on their team in April. Not a problem with me, I'll give 100% no matter how bad a hand I deal myself

I'm disbanding the ESPN league. I haven't gotten any responses aside from yours that anyone wants to continue it.

However, I'd like to start up a money league on ESPN. Here's the league page:

http://beyondthunderdome.baseball.cbssports.com/

I'm thinking something like $100 to $150 (depending on people's preferences), with h2h scoring, keepers, and minor leaguers.

Something robust and worth maintaining over a few years.

Anyone who is interested, please send me a pm.

Thanks,
Craig
