Cape Cod Community College DG Course

Post by Mr.Scary »

I'm coming back to NE for vacation and looked for it on the PDGA website and now it's not listed.

Has it been pulled?

It was one of my favorite 9 holers and it'd be shame if it was gone.

Thanks in advance.

Here's a more elaborate response.

The course was pulled due to vandalism, trash and other nuisances, constant police calls, etc. The college just didn't want to deal with it anymore realistically.

Allow me to expand on this. In the months leading up to the closure of 4Cs, there was a dedicated group from the college (Phi Theta Kappa) that had cleaned up the course regularly, replaced all the tee signs and fixed up some of the tee pads. The course was looking better than ever and actually had a managed maintenance schedule...which had long been lacking.

Then came a huge episode at Burgess Park in Marstons Mills where 11 people were arrested for underage drinking, marijuana possession, etc. Obviously, this was a big story in the local paper with "disc golf" in the heading. Within a month and a half of that episode, 4Cs closed the course.

The officials at the college closed the course because there was a history of trashing, drinking, etc at 4Cs and they saw what happened at Burgess and did not want a repeat occurance at their college campus....completely understandable; however, the 4Cs course was finally being managed the way it should've been all along, but the bad press pushed the decision-makers to close it anyway.

Bitching and moaning from security personnel hastened the process. There were claims from security (posted in the paper) about needles being strewn throughout the course and broken glass everywhere. At the time this came out, I had been playing the course regularly and it was spotless. I had never seen a freakin needle on the course anywhere and I'd played it countless times. Draw your own conclusions here.

Within 5 days of course closure, over half the baskets were stolen from the course...the other baskets, I can only assume, are in storage somewhere.

I loved the course at 4Cs...it was a tragic loss of a truly unique course.

Thank you all for the sad details.
I'll really miss CCCC, I used fake being sick at work and spend the day eating/drinking Subway and playing till my arms fell off.

I can't stop looking at these responses and shaking my head in sad disbelief. :(

My "Fortress of Solitude" as I called it is gone...
