Devens - Vandals hit course

Post by John Borelli »

Unfortunately, we've had our first "big" act of vandalism.

I just heard that some losers destroyed one of our new teeboxes. Sometime between Sunday and Tuesday, someone did some 4-wheeling around the course and drove over teebox 6. Thankfully, that's the only damage seen so far, but I think they also blazed a few new trails through the woods.

To help us nail down when this happened, please email me the day and time you last played there and saw the new teebox undamaged, or saw anyone driving around the course!

John R and I are headed over at 1:00 today to fix it and do some other course work. Join us if you can. If not, see you at league at 5:00.

Except that it may have been the state police that did it.
Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that disc getting bigger?". Then it hits me.

I say you call them and find out. If they did, mystery solved. If they did not, you can make them aware of the damage and ask them to keep an eye out.

John, FYI

I was at the course the day after KOH tourney and saw an ATV troop riding through while I was standing on hole 7. There were probably 6 or 7 of them total and they were riding across the fairway of hole 6 on their way to the other side of the hill. In all fairness, they were riding very slowly and deliberately, but I don't know the written or unwritten rules when it comes to other rec activities on the hill

I only played one round that day and it was between 3 and 5 p.m. I saw no damage to the tee boxes on my way thru those holes but I don't know if the ATVers were still there after I left

Hope this helps.

Yep, we've seen them around a lot lately and have asked them to stay away. They say yes but obviously return. Not too concerned yet as they seem to be respectful. The box damage was definitely done by a vehicle.

Now I'm dealing with litterbugs and cigarette smokers who leave me their butts. Unfortunately, both side-effects of building a popular course I guess. :(

Why are people littering butts? So F'n annoying. Not only did I pick up at least 5 at KoTH, but one was in the tee box which means it probably happened during the tourney. In fairness, it was still about 1/2 unsmoked so it probably was an unintentional leave-behind from a player, but the ones on the green are annoying. I don't want to park my disc on something that's been in your mouth!

Do what I do, either throw them in your bag in a random pocket and empty them at the end of the round, or get yourself a portable ash tray. Marlboro sent me one for free years ago and it's usually with me on rounds. Claims to hold up to 6 butts, but it definately can hold more.

This isnt mine, but the concept's there.
