No Mark, I'm still "safe" here !

In this discussion back a few months ago, I stated nothing incorrectly.
What has transpired since is that Chuck, et al decided to "clarify" things (read: do a lot of typing of black words (not the blue words...which are the ACTUAL rules) to "influence us" to "see things their way" (of interpreting the rules) by writing this article.

The rules - at least the rules in MY rule book (copyright 2006 version - which are the current version) STILL do not state to mark it "as Chuck feels it should" because it (his way espoused) is NOT an "in effect" rule. That only can come from a new printing of the rules (and then will be in blue and not in black). It's cleverly done; make one think they're now in effect but all that black writing is just an interpretation...NOT the printed rule.

So I wasn't wrong when I stated what I stated (back in May).
And Chuck wasn't correct. He just has the time / power / etc., to influence things to "get done" (regarding rules changes, interpretations, etc. more than I do) as he sees fit.
Whether the new rules that come out state what the "PDGA staff" stated in the most-recent article or not, we'll have to see.
If it does, THEN and only then will I comply with that rule "as printed"...for it WILL be a rule (and in print), and not just some article on a web page.

the real question then is this: will Karl attempt to enforce this rule of correct mini marker placement (in front of first point of contact) upon other players in his group during "official" events (PDGA-sanctioned or events "utilizing" PDGA rules)???

Chuck's question of a leading disc edge slightly elevated above the playing surface occurs ALL THE TIME ... and it seems ridiculous to attempt to place a mini UNDERNEATH a disc at rest just because that first point of contact is the back edge.

IMO, good luck with this ... I think the other players would look at you once, and say are you serious? You're really going to call me on this? And probably say "I've always placed my mini at the leading edge of my disc, and will continue to do so." And I don't expect ANYONE to ever second this call during live play.

And I know this opens the discussion about actual rules enforcement ... but sheesh, discussing this level of minutia seems inane.

The RC simply clarified that "on" the playing surface means flat on the playing surface (not tipped and just touching) in the way most discs land and minis are placed in front to mark a lie. The word "on" is in the rulebook. Now we know the specifics. Karl prefers a more liberal meaning for "on" which is not how the RC sees it.

You may (or may not) know me well enough to know that I do NOT take this sport seriously. Or any fun past-time seriously.

I try to do MY best (get grumpy at myself when I don't, etc.) but don't really care if my playing partners (what most people call opponents) cheat, lie, wave their hands in the air to distract me when I'm putting, mark their discs off by 2cm, jingle change in their pockets to distract me, etc., because...
...It's a freakin' sport!
This is NOT something that is THAT important - in the big scheme of things - and I'm NOT going to waste precious energy over something as petty as someone "winning" 1 more disc (via what they do) than I'll get.

What DOES get me mad is when someone spouts off on being "an authority on everything" and by flapping their gums says things which will lead others (who may NOT know the real deal) astray. Politics is FULL of blowhards...and in any organization, there's usually a few too .
I'm all about protecting the "innocent / unknowing" and making sure the correct information is placed out on the table - not just 1 person's interpretation of something.

Make a mistake and I'll call you on it.
If I make a mistake I'll expect you to call ME on it.

I have nothing to hide (and no hidden agenda / desire for power). We'll only make this sport better if we check our egos at the door and deal with the facts.
