Ever notice....

Post by Jim OConnell »

The Berkshires and the northwest third of CT are a disc golf wasteland. I wonder why that is. Any ideas?

The corresponding area in NY is also void of any (useful) DG courses...... between the Hudson and the border of NY there's NO courses until you get down to FDR/Kisco.

Hopefully the town of Chatham, NY will be changing this problem....... http://forums.nefa.com/viewtopic.php?p=198544#p198544

what about conway?
i totally agree. i have a place out there and i am amazed there aren't more courses. the berkshires are beautiful! we need more courses out there.
therefore, i am building a course in clarksburg, ma(since last fall). it will be a private course for now, with the potential to be public/pay course(like conway) in the future. i have 18 holes with buckets. i hope to slowly replace the buckets with baskets. next spring i plan on finalizing the 18(adding tee pads and extending a few holes) and adding another 9 holes. if anyone is in the area next spring/summer/fall give me a shout, i would love other disc golfer's opinions. building a disc golf course is A LOT OF WORK!

So is the South Shore/SE Mass... nothing at all from Boston until the Cape right at the coast (Burgess only) and only Borderland and Normandy Farms (and who wants to pay $12 for a round?) inland. Also nothing in RI.

Two of New England's very first courses were at Oak & Spruce resort near South Lee, MA and at Catamont ski resort on the MA/NY border both of which were designed and installed by Ed Headrick around 1977. They both received insufficient business and removed the basket within a few years. The Northeast qualifier for Wham-O's legendary $50K tournament in Huntington Beach, CA in 1979 was held at Oak & Spruce.

Conway, MA is not in the Berkshires. Its in Franklin County. If you consider it so then you might as well add Northampton and Crane Hill to your list of Berkshire courses. That being said someone should install a course at Tanglewood. Now that would be sweet.

I would think North Adams would be a great sport for a course, what with the college right there and lots of land.
