Pats vs Jets Part II
Decided to create a thread dedicated to this epic match up. Regardless of the rampant parity in the league this year, there's no denying that this is the match up of the year between 2 teams that have scratched and clawed their way to 9-2 records.

Absolutely agree that this is the best game of the season. It would be so cool if we all lived close so we could hang out and watch the game. Not a chance on the sig challenge...I'm the first to admit the JETS are the worst 9-2 team ever... how about this. If the Patriots lose, I get giselle. Everyone agree? Perfect.

Atlanta will be in the Super Bowl. The Pats or Jets may make it, but my money is on Baltimore.
Tom Brady... 25 for his last 25 at home. (25-0)... guarentee that ATL will NOT be representing the NFC in the Superbowl.
Thanks, have a nice day. Matty Ice, OVERRATED. Michael Turner and Roddy White make that team go.
ATL's pass D, just as bad as the Pat's.. I'll take Brady and Co. any day of the week, any where... here or there.
25 for 25 huh? It certainly is a daunting record but I still feel like the Packers are going to come into Foxborough and win the game. Packers have a way better defense (have given up 100 less points than the Pats and the offenses are both high powered. I am just hoping that the Patriots dont win the week before because I know that the Patriots do not lose two games in a row.
If Atlanta will not be representing the NFC, who will? You riding Drew (SI Sportsman of the Year) Brees' jock? Tampa? Eli and the Giants?
I would say the Packers but without home field or a legitimate run game, I dont see them pulling off a victory in Atlanta. (Having your QB scramble for 50 yards per game does not count as a run game)

I like the Rams... I keeeeed.
Um I like the Packers actually. You don't need a run game to win the big ones now-a-days, and the Pack doesnt need play action to throw deep, like the Pats. ATL is real weak on Defense, well, terrible against the pass, solid against the run. Ball possesion offense, try and keep their defense fresh. Working thus far.
Besides the Falcons/Packers/Eagles, I don't see anyone that can win the NFC.

The Bears beat GB in their first meeting this season..granted, it was flukey. The Bears made it to the SB with a killer defense, Devin Hester and a QB who tried his hardest not to lose the game for his team...aka, Rex Grossman. In this parity ridden season, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see any of the following teams represent the NFC in the playoffs:
Falcons
GB
Eagles
Giants
Saints
Bears
Each of these teams has the QB, and/or running game and/or defense to carry them to the SB this year....only to lose to the AFC rep, but that's another story

It's official: The New England Patriots officially have the WORST passing defense in the NFL through 11 games, giving up a league high 3173 yards and an average of 288.5 yards per game.
Dirty Sanchez and the Jets WRs and TEs should have a field day this week.

I don't think anyone is touting the fact that the Pats have a great defense...we all know they are mediocre, and have been for some time now. They certainly seem to take on the "bend don't break" mentality, but how can you say it's not working for them?
They are young, and I still think they are getting better each week.

I won't go as far as saying that you are a homer. But, Kovo... "mediocre"... nope... they are "bad"... "bend don't break"? c'mon, this year, it's BEND and BREAK... except late when the game is on the line after your offense has put 30+ on the board and you need 1 play to win the game. Up till that point in games the defense has been SHREDDED in just about every outing.
The defense isn't even a "bend don't break" nor "mediocre", it's simply piss poor.
3 Things that the Pats are doing REALLY well.
1. Great adjustments in "crucial/late" situations by the defense, it's almost like they save some looks defensively for the last couple series of games.
2. DISCIPLINE, the first instance this season of not seeing this, blatently of course, was the idiotic Tully Banta-Cain penalty. The Pats are one of the least penalized teams in the league.
3. Holding onto the ball. It's not rocket science, go look at the TO margin numbers, teams that are at the top of that chart for the most part are above .500 and looking for a playoff spot with a couple exceptions (Jacksonville -13! First place in their division) the past have turned it over 9 times thru 11 games, that's pretty solid. They haven't been putting their defense on a short field and Zoltan has done a good job pinning teams back.

Let's see.
Week 1 Cincinnati (Not a good team) Took an early 21+ point lead and coasted.
Week 2 NYJ... Offense shut down in second half, Pats blow half time lead.
Week 3 Buffalo, OFFENSE wins a shootout with the lowly Buffalo Bills
Week 4 Miami... aka the Pat Chung show.. special teams were the key. NOT THE DEFENSE.
Week 6 Baltimore... The Ravens controlled this game on both sides. A masterful Special Teams Punt then stupid, stupid penalty by McClain cost the Ravens the game, arguably the best defensive performance of the season... by the Pats
Week 7 San Diego almost wins this game coming back against a shaky, shaky defense, San Diego mental mistakes are evident. Again, defense, non-existent in crunch time.
Week 8 Minnesota, probably their second best performance of the season, although, Percy Harvin went hog wild against the No. 2 CB.
Week 9 Cleveland... Peyton Hillis, nuff said. How'd the defense look this day Kovo?
Week 10 Pittsburgh... offense comes out firing leaving Pittsburgh to play catchup, defense even knowing the other team HAS TO THROW, still is flawed and lights up the secondary.
Week 11 Indianapolis... got the big lead, and almost lost it. Cunningham and Sanders come up with the one play to win the game. Second half was disastrous for the NE Def.
Week 12 Detroit... Defense had one key TO to sway the momentum of the game, but still the OFFENSE got out early in the second half and forced the Lions into throwing, which they did with ease.
Even in situations when the other team is being forced to throw and the Pats are forced into coverage schemes, THEY STILL CAN'T cover. If this defense is part of a championship team it will easily go down as the WORST defensive unit to have won a title.
IT's terrible and yes, I just showed you that you can win 9 games without a defense, the Pats have gotten their fair share of really good bounces this season.
You can call me Felger. I like the team, especially without Moss, but the defense is going to have to improve GREATLY for this team to have a chance come crunch time. Leaps and Bounds better, not marginal improvement.
They'll still beat the Jets though.
If I had time, I'd break down just how bad the Defense is statistically and just how much the OFFENSE has carried the load this year, simply put if the offense was averaging 3-4 points less per game, they'd be 6-5...

Who the [bleep] cares??...they're winning and they've beaten some of the best teams (or were the best teams at the time) in the NFL. Christ!!, enough stat talk, just enjoy the FACT that we are 9-2, Brady is having a GREAT year and the D is getting timely turnovers when it matters MOST....stats don't account for that. If they beat the Jets on Monday night, they are in the driver's seat for homefield throughout, so just enjoy that possibility and relax!
BTW, thanks again for the sig challenge LaGrassa, seeing that sig below every one of your posts just cracks me up and will continue to do so each time you post.

Just stating the obvious. This defense is not even "mediocre" and is not a "bend and don't break"...
They should go more with "Hey offense, put up 30, and hold onto the ball for 35 minutes a game... mmm kay."
You realize the Pats D has logged the most defensive snaps in the league?!?! Wonder why guys are nicked up.
Defense in it's current state will not win a Superbowl, unless the offense does MORE! (Which is tough, they are already turning out a pretty prolific season."

Is it just me or is Brady making more amazing thread the needle passes than normal, not the make the highlight reel variety, but just of the putting the ball on the money in tight defensive traffic variety. You can't argue with the most points on the board stat.
