good kids disc

Post by Mike Davis »

I am looking to get my 6 y/o daughter A disc to practice with in my back yard, I know it needs to be light, but i am wondering what to get, is there any that are made for kids or a little smaller? (no minis)

110g 'edge' Polecat. my kids (4 and 6) love 'em, they fly pretty far and straight and don't hurt when someone gets smacked.

I know Innova has the "EDGE" program which is all discs in the 95-110g weights. I bought my 6yo daughter a few different discs by searching at Marshall Street for any discs under 130g and they had a few different choices.

I gave my daughter (5 Y.O.) a 110 gram aviar. She loves it and can throw it much further than my heavy discs.

I got both of my boys (2 and 4 yrs.) each a EDGE Shark. My 4 yr old is hitting the basket from 25 ft with LHBH, RHBH and RHFH. He's a righty but he says he's most comfortable throwing a disc lefty (damn it Dodge) but he throws these with ease either way.

If anyone's interested...

the BEST kid's disc for playing catch is the Aerobie Squidgie. they fly surprisingly well for being so damn floppy (you can roll it like a towel), my 4 y/o son can get it to go about 60 ft dead straight! Best part is, you can whip it right back to them, hit them in the face and they laugh. It's hard to NOT to catch it.

Best $5 I've spent in a long time. Try it!

I gave my boys (ages 6 & 8) some 115g lightning #1 Drivers. They can do fairly well and they are good beginner discs for learning. The inside lip is grooved which allows for them to grip it better and learn release times. The plastic is inexpensive (the cheapest out there) and it floats in water.

I don't feel bad either if they lose them since the cost was minimal.

I also have them put with MVP ion putters - has a nice firm edge with a soft middle, good introduction to soft plastics.

From the looks of it, NEFA will have a great next generation of young disc golfers ... Ben is only a year and a half, but loves to hold any disc I put in his hands. But since he's only been walking about 4-5 months and just started throwing blocks and other toys, I'll wait a bit before getting him his first legit disc.
