I owe you one, since I bought the Nuvi265 sight unsen at Costco based soleyon your recommendation, and it rocks.
I would only go to http://www.dell.com/outlet .
I looked forever, and this is the best. You can filter by everythign, and search for the min gig you want, exact chip, screen size, hard drive, and video card. IN the end you will find eihter a scratch and dent, returned unopened, or refurbished guaranteed, for a freaction of the cost. I wne tiwth the Vostro, fully loaded with sweet video card, 320 Gig, 3 G ram, for under $550. this was about 6 months ago, maybe longer.
You an also check www.gotapex.com. this is where the most curent deals are posted.
Let me know hwo you make out.

Thanks, ill check it out.
I had my Nuvi 265 for about 7 months and it started to loose satlights off and on so I brought it back to Costco for a full refund, no questions!-I think they changed the refund policy on electronics since then. I got the nuvi 1490 with the Lifetime Traffic, has some cool features- like elevation
The detour on traffic works really well, Its basically the same as the 265 with a wide screen, about $100 more.

It really depends what your doing with your computer. If your just surfing the net you don't need anything too extreme. On the other hand if your doing video editing or want to play the latest games than you want to get something different.
As far as drive speed goes, it's simply a matter of how fast your computer accesses stored data off of the hard drive. A 7200rpm should be more than enough for typical use (excluding top end games or other advanced usage) otherwise the faster hard drive will eat through the battery faster. I don't know if they've started putting solid state drives in laptops yet but from what I've heard they would offer the lowest power consumption and the best data access rates. Of course that comes at a price.

Well, you DO get what you pay for! I've had 9 Macs over the last 20 years, rely heavily on them them for my graphic design business, and NEVER had one in the shop. NEVER had a hardware problem, always fixed any software glitches myself, and NEVER had a virus or whatever you PC'ers call them?

That was the one I was thinking about getting! Toshiba Model: A505-S6005
Funny now that the desk top seems to be running more stable I have put the new computer on the back-burner, but I was looking at the Toshiba at Best Buy the last week and looks like a good deal. Thanks for the help
Dave
The new Apple Mac book seems like a great computer and (I know its better than a PC) for $999.00. but the 13" screen seems really small.

Re: I need a laptop, where, why and what to buy?
Just returned the Asus great being a cost member! The Asus was a powerful machine but it got a little warm and battery was less than one hour! The new sandy bridge intel chips just came out so I wanted the upgrade.
After selling computers at best buy the last few months I realized all the reps have macs and most of the problems come to the geek squad with pc's.
Now Apple releases the new macbook pro with the sandy bridge i5's
Soon to be a MAC owner!__

I just got the Toshiba Satellite A665 which is just all around a pimp computer.
Tech specs up the wazoo, backlit keyboard, built in harmon speakers, hdmi out, and more bells and whistles than I can list.
Good price too.

i now own a macbook pro, and its only been 2 days and i get it! you know you have a quality product by the fit and finish, packaging, eas of set up.
everything just makes sense. startup takes 15-20 seconds! shut down less than 3 seconds.
and im just begining,
cost more but worth it!!
