I really don't think a 150 gram stable mid is going to just fall out of the air. It didn't when I threw them. And a KC aviar is an overstable putter, how would that be any better for them than a stable mid? The putter is one of the more difficult discs in the bag to throw with ease and for a noob you want something easy to throw that they will at least be able to get some distance with, you don't want to discourage them. I know a lot of decent players that still can't throw a putter. Don't get me wrong tho, throwing a putter far is a great skill to learn and should be learned early but a light stable disc will help them work up to that. You need to throw a putter pretty hard with good form to get any distance what so ever out of it, something that will be difficult when you are just learning.

I respect your opinion, but I still think I would give a newbie a putter first. I don't think it's one of the more difficult discs to throw with ease because it feels a little more like a frisbee, which they've probably thrown before. Plus, isn't a putter a slower disc than a mid-range? Wouldn't that mean that a slower-throwing newbie would find it easier to get a slower disc to go straight?

I used to putt with a Shark, I guess the real point of this thread is that one disc, what would you start someone with? A newb is gonna be able to throw a mid range further than a putter.. and they can putt with it too..

thanks for all the suggestions folks.

After looking through a lot of discs, and who they'll be for (younger folks, 10-14 year olds), and at my wallet, I've decided to go with...

150 class DX Aero.

Large diameter, tons of glide, almost no turn or fade, good for putting or short drives and approaches. It's listed as a putter/slow mid these days, but it used to be a driver back in the day. haha.

Plus, Marshall street has 22 x-outs in stock, i get to go grab them tomorrow and blast through Pyramids and the shop while there. 8-)

Good reasoning and good choice. Plus, sounds like a sweet find @MS!

ps: finally checked out that 9 hole course at strawberry park you mentioned. not bad, with plenty of safari hole options for longer holes.

peace,

My gifriend who is quite tiny throws a dx destroyer flick and backhand and a roc extremely well. Just needs to learn to come straight across the chest. Sunk 3 25 foot putts with the roc today and it was her second time.
