gateway g1i

Post by David Kardynal »

I had one of these for a few months till barre ate it. It has been the most straight flying driver I have used for my back hand. I know nothing about gateway discs but the plastic on this one was like dx but it took a great beating. Anyone with gateway knowledge?

Charlie Holmgren would probably be a good source.

g1i is the Sabre. beyond that, I don't know much about gateway's lineup outside their putters.

I may have one of those old G stamps somewhere and definitely a bunch of sabres... What were you trying to figure out?

i have 2 sabres and liked them very much when they were new. yes, possibly the straightest fairway driver i've ever thrown. only prob i had is that the plastic wasn't very resilient and developed some pretty nasty gouges on the edge. they were retired at that point. if gateway makes that same mold in a tougher plastic i would def be interested.

Yeah I can see this plastic not being too durable. I was figuring they made the sabre in a tougher plastic as this disc loved the straight line. I was also hoping I could find an innova/discraft replacement of the same nature.

Gateway makes the Sabre in their E (Evolution) plastic! I have a 2005 St. Louis Open "E - Sabre" in 174 that's a milky clear (translucent) and is wicked tough. Me thinks Gateway's answer to Champion / Z plastic.

Nice! Just saw this post. Good to see some Gateway chatter on the boards.

David,
I'm pretty sure you were workin' an old Sabre mold. You will love the the E Sabre as a replacement. The E plastic is just as reliable as any other plastic on the market. The S plastic gets beat up pretty fast which would explain what you had. Personally I only throw the S plastic stuff and just have plenty of back ups. I dont really like any Evolution/Champion stuff. Too slick in the rain.

I don't have any sabres in my bag but I do know that Nikko and McCrae are into them for straight line shots.

If you see me out there sometime I will save you some money and sell them to you for like $10.

Good luck!
