Did you know .........

You may brace yourself by grabbing an immovable object behind your lie like a larger tree trunk. In fact, you can have your caddy or other person hold your hand if you're perched precariously on a creek bank as long as they are behind you. For those who disagree, point out the words in the rules that disallow what I just posted.

I believe that's true as long as the supporting object doesn't move. So if you have your foot hooked around a sapling, and it bends when you throw, it's illegal, right?

If it bends while executing your throw, it's legal. You just can't bend it before throwing.

So if you hook your foot around a bigger tree that won't bend with your weight, one could effectively lean over the front of their lie, closer to the hole.

Yes, but it's not that amazing. You can start your putting motion with one of your feet in front of your lie and lift it up just before releasing the disc.

Sounds like a backwards-walking putt because the forward foot would have to come down BEHIND your lie once you release. Not sure what benefit it would give..........throwing your disc forward as your body moves the opposite way?

I've used it a few times. It's especially helpful into a headwind on very windy days when you're around 4-6 feet from the basket to get as close to it as possible with your release as you step back. You sort of look like you're doing the Karate Kid Crane Move in slo-mo moving backwards.

Would your foot have too come down behind your marker , or could you just keep it up and establish balance until your disc has come to rest and then put it down in front of you?

Good question and one I'm waiting on the RC for an answer. They would prefer you touch the ground behind the mark with that foot. However, they also agree the rule only says "establishing balance" but no stated requirement to touch that foot down behind. Thus, the dilemma they are pondering now.

Whatever the decision, the dispostion of the disc has NO bearing on the determination of a falling putt ("establish balance until your disc has come to rest").

I wish that myth would stop perpetuating itself.

Exactly. You regularly see players who will pause their step thru after releasing the putt until it stops in the basket or on the ground and then continue forward on the assumption that's when you may move forward. Until the RC rules, we won't know if this might be legal or not. It's possible that pausing with your non-stance foot in the air for a noticeable time period might be considered sufficient to indicate balance.

I've seen someone use this rule to their advantage at NH States in Rindge.
Hole #9, on their second throw.
Since I think the rules are donkey anyway, I thought that was fine by me. Cool in a gay kinda sh*tty way.

I think the guy threw the disc with his leg wrapped around a tree behind his lie.
I'm not one who knows the rules.
