State Challenge

Post by David Hoey »

A while ago, I brought up the idea of a state challenge. I figured with everything that's going on, I'd reintroduce it, just to see if it gained any traction.

Before all that GD snow, David Hoey wrote:In the future, I think I'd love to see I see State vs State where the elitest of the elite who want good competition, get it, and represent their state.

And we still keep Team Challenge where individual courses are represented, each team can choose how competitive they'd like to be... or two divisions for that... sort of a Primer to get ready for your state team, I don't know.

Would like to see the top 15,20 from each state go at it.
That thought has been going in my head for a few days now.

Who doesn't want to defend their state?

Top 10-15-20 from each state battle it out very much like our TC now (sooo... most of Utopia for CT ;) (yes. though Homegrown! Bottle up that water and send it up here), and the Farm Team for ME  ) )

That gets the crème de la crème playing other said crème de la crème.

Now there's something to aspire to, by wanting to play better to play the best.

State Challenge and Team Challenge remain separate.

I think the numbers are there. If this were to ever happen, "Team" Challenge may be able to be the training grounds for getting a chance to play for your state (especially if State teams are yearly tryouts/ratings), while at the same time, defending your home course ( ideally  / but I digress  ) honor, while playing for that very important bragging right. Could we still keep "2" pools/divisions... :alien:

And I think those 2 "divisions" would sort themselves out as far as how seriously people were taking the league... eventually

It seems to me, that many or most of us fall into 1 of two categories... we either like to Compete at a very high level and play the best (while having fun), or we like to play in mutually engaging competitions (whatever you take that to be) while placing an emphasis on being a good student (while having fun)).

The point is, is that we all want to have fun, it's just that at the same time, we are all striving to have fun and win.

I'd even love to see a C Pool... perhaps some sort of "competition in the AM, sheet-show for the second round kind of competition mentality" Pretty sure that's a few of you out there! haha

So. It's out there...

There would still be a lotta wrinkles to iron out!! And I'm pretty sure somebody would love to run it more than I would ;)

Maybe combine the state comp with the format dome's been reppin' ?

Makes a lotta sense to me.

Since I'm obviously the best player in MA, I'll volunteer to be the captain.

Also makes a lotta sense to me

first step would have to be to nominate captains. It would be hard to pick the best of MA. Many good players to choose from.

Really? Only 5.. that's an awfully inclusive event. 25 people? Go 10-12.

All OPEN.

Or perhaps 3 of the top players in each division(that all the states can produce 3 players in), and let each state decide who goes. Like us in VT we could use our point series.

Nope, I have affiliations to neither. I "consult" Todd with TC, and he sometimes bounces questions and concerns off me, but in the end it's his decisions.

I also "consult" with DanO about some of his idea's with the Point Series and set up of that stuff, but in the end, they are just using me as a person to bounce ideas off of, as I can always feel the "pulse" of NEFA... and Team Challenge...

If I didn't have a 6 month old. I'd run this thing, I just can't devote the time, ecspecially with the strides we've made as a club on the Cape...

Team Challenge already has this. As does the Earl Cup.

Why don't we see who truly has the BEST players.

10-12 slots, Captain picks a roster, all OPEN.

TC and Earl Cup already have this # of women, this # of AM's, this # of GM, this # of Masters, let's figure out which state has the BEST that New England has to offer. Billy Dunne counts as MA right?

I know Joe... and you'd usually be right.

I know I wont have the time or energy for it, but I did want to float the idea out there though.

This are the rules that captains suppose to fallow in nefa TC. what happen you didn't follow this rules solbo. What a potu! State team should be the best player in each state.. All player should be 980 rated player and better. No women, no Am, No GM. all pros. This prevent Solbo skim from happening.

I don't think making it open players, 980 and above is conducive to growing the club. Making it exclusive will only serve to piss off a lot of people.

What the funk are you talking about. Again, I don't RUN the Team Challenge. So, therefore, I don't enforce the rules, like Cranbury wanting to start Sjur at finals eventhough he didn't qualify... and trying to skirt the rules to get him there.

Secondly, 980 and above?

So, you wouldn't be on the CT roster. Mass would only have 6-7 players.

You're basically agreeing with me and don't even understand it... I say each state picks a captain, and the captain picks the 12 players regardless of rating, 12 OPEN SPOTS, what don't you get?

The Terror will be rated >980 in the next update. Of course he knew he was going to kill it and thus his rating would rise.

Nice win this weekend Marvino!

NY, NJ, CT, RI, ME, MASS, VT, NH

72 players.....9 players per team(assuming that these would be the states playing....is NJ part of NEFA....are there 9 disc golfers in RI??), bring the best to be the best. One day event at a central location.

CT would win.

I see no need to pump up jocks for some meaningless event. Why don't you make it even easier and take the 5 best scores from the Vibram from each state and declare a state a winner? I mean the best golfers from each of these states would presumably already be playing in the biggest event in NEFA land wouldn't they?
