New Jersey's Newest Disc Golf Course

Post by Matt LaCourte »

Greetings All,

I got approval on Wednesday to install a 9 hole disc golf course in Alexandria Town Park, Milford, NJ. I live 1.5 miles from the park.

I have to raise the funds for the course and I'm offering hole sponsorships for $400. You will be recognized on the tee sign and also on a special golf disc. You can contact me at: mlacourte@bernards.org or 908-995-2298.

Innova Disc Golf has promised the donate the 1st target for Alexandria Town Park. BOB can you post the flyer I sent you? Looking at workdays after baseball season is over June 14th. I'm in dire need of a large tractor or landscaper to cut the disc golf course for the first time. Any and all help is appreciated. Hole sponsors still needed. 8-)

The Alexandria Park Disc Golf Course grass was cut this week. I've tweaked the design slightly after my walk through last night. There will be 2 legitimate par 4's on this 9 hole layout. There will be 2 sets of tees. I'll be out on Saturday and Sunday this week doing some more clearing. As soon as I get approval for the layout I'll order baskets. Look for more workdays after I get back from Pro Worlds. You can reach me on my cell at 908-616-4953 for directions or mlacourte@bernards.org.

Alexandria Town Park Workdays August 18 & 19

Post by Matt LaCourte »

Good Morning All,

I'm having the 1st workdays for Alexandria Town Park. This will be your first chance to preview the layout and propose any changes. Targets are scheduled to arrive end of August. Items needed: Weed wackers, pruners, shovels and a chainsaw. I anticipate working 2 hours each day, there is not that much to be cleared. I will supply beverages. After work is done we can throw the layout or head to Tinicum for some practice for the AMMO on August 26th.

Here's the link for directions:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q ... iwloc=addr

You can confirm your attendance here or call me at 908-616-4953. Come on out and help get this new course rolling....

No work day at Alexandria on Sunday August 19th. I'll be moving baskets at Tinicum on Sunday and hopefully planting the #9 tee sign also in preparation for the X Town AMMO on August 26th. 8-)

Wear long pants as the grass is a little high right now. You can reach me on my cell: 908-616-4953.

Here's the latest news about Alexandria Park DGC.

Alexandria Township had their Community Day this past Saturday and they gave me a booth to introduce disc golf to the community and it was a great success!! Well over 100 children and adults tried out the 2 hole course I set up and there was more awareness of disc golf than I anticipated.

Thanks to the generous sponsors so far: Mid-Altantic Disc Club, Skylands Disc Club, Delaware Disc Golfers, LaCourte Family and Innova Disc Golf.

I have 9 almost complete targets sitting in my basement, the tops should be here this week. I have been clearing for the last few weeks and the grass is scheduled to be cut the end of this week.

There will be workdays on Saturdays starting October 6th. Work involved will be clearing tee pads, setting sleeves and assembling targets. Please RSVP to mlacourte@gmail.com. I'm still taking sponsorships for the targets and I'll will also have Pro Destroyers as fundraiser discs thanks to Innova!!

If the weather cooperates the course should be ready before Halloween!

Hey Matty: Are the Tinicum boys planning to run any PDGA events in 2008? It's one of my favorite East Coast courses, and I'd love to get a "rated" crack at it again...

Tee Posts are in and I just planted the first sleeve. All sleeves should be in by this week, pole holes to follow. There will be temp tee signs until I get the metal signs. Still waiting for the grass to be cut, my volunteer has not followed through yet. I'll reach out to other local landscapers for assitance. Could be playable by October 27th....

Craig there is some talk of PDGA events in the Lehigh Valley next year, maybe even Tinicum.

Alexandria Township Disc Golf course is playable. The temp tee signs are up. I'm working on a map, scorecard and information board. Should have them done shortly.

Pro Destroyers are in!! They are all white and are between 168-175g. I also have Aviar Putters and 150 g Sharks. Destroyers are $20 and Aviars/Sharks are $10 each. I'll have them with me at the AMMO Saturday at Nocky and at Hickory Run Nov. 17th. Please note that I will not mail order discs unless you spend $50. All proceeds go to the course fund 8-)

Alexandria Township Park...

Post by Karl Molitoris »

Played Matt's newest course this past weekend. Although it's a ways from typical NEFAland, if you're over in the Delaware River area (eastern PA / western NJ) it's worth the stop.

It's a legit par-29 (2 4's - 1 420' up a wicked steep hill; 1 600'er) that has both wide open (watch the winds!) and tight barkbangers. Nine are in now and he says he'll be putting in a "woodsier back 9" when he gets the time / funds. There's a lot of land to play with there so he (and eventually us) will have fun.

Here are the directions to the first tee at Alexandria.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q ... iwloc=addr

After entering the Park take the gravel road on the left, watch out for the light pole. Stay right on gravel road to 1st tee across from the old farm house.

Please realize that they are tearing down the old farmhouse between the the Tee of #1 and Basket of #9 and you may not be able to get through for another week or so. You can just park and walk in. The 9 holes make a counter clock wise loop back to Tee #1. There are elevation changes on every hole.

The first 4 holes are short and tricky, Hole #5 is straight uphill 420' par 4 and #6 is gentle left to right touch shot. Follow orange flags to Tee #7 which is a 385' hole tucked 60' behind a huge bush. #8 is a uphill 270' tucked in a grove of trees. Hole #9 is a big dogleg left 600' par 4 to finish by the farmhouse. The pathway by hole #9 is OB like a stream.

Contact me if you want a guided tour. :-D

Here's the latest update on Alexandria DGC:

Alternate tees & fairways have been cleared and marked with orange flags.

Delaware Valley Disc Club will be forming, events will be held at Tinicum and Alexandria in 2008.

There are still 3 hole sponsors available on the 1st 9 holes. Fundraiser Discs ( Pro Destroyers) are still available. We will be fundraising all year to fund 9 baskets and tee pads (like Nocky's).

There has been an abundance of play at these unique course. Come on out and check it out, you will not be disappointed.

The target for Hole #6 at Alexandria Township Park DGC is missing, any information will be appreciated. Please keep eyes and ears open for a new Innova Discatcher floating around. The target was taken sometime between Thursday night and Monday morning. A report was filed with the State Police and they will be looking also. Thanks.

Wow, something was stolen in Jersey. I bet the state police will be all over that one!

Sorry for the sarcasm. I hope you guys find it or have it replaced soon. It sucks that people think they can take the deer feeders home with them.

I placed a pvc pole into the sleeve on #6 for now. I should be able to replace the target soon.

I still have fundraiser discs available, Pro Destroyers 2 for $30.

Thanks.

Matt,

Props to you and boys who have been doing the mowing. Even in mid-summer and with all the BIG fields here, played 2 rounds and didn't even think of losing a disc.
