Other loud groups

Post by Rob Walker »

I've been playing tournaments and challenges where other groups on the course have continually been loud enough to be distracting. If you are close enough to talk to each other, there can be a warning followed by stroking them. My problem is that the loudness is far enough away that nothing can be done without being loud myself or walking a few holes away and slowing things up. Any suggestions?

Mike, good to know. I should stop taking the rules of etiquette so literally. If I was the only one who felt this way, I wouldn't have brought it up. Playing with headphones on seems rather anti-social. I'll just have to learn to putt with noise going on. Anytime you play on a full course there are going to be other noises going on, I was referring more to loud, regular yelling from other groups.

I have to say that Chris Mayone up in VT this past weekend was the king of etiquette and working with louder groups. On a few occasions we would stumble up to a tee box that was in close proximity to another group's tee box and/or putting green ... in either case, a simple burst of short whistles/clicks from the mouth were good enough to alert the other group that we were ready to roll and visa/versa ... no need to yell across fairways. We knew what was at stake ... even when working with divisions that were less experienced tourney players. Just a thought ...
