Re: How are NEFA points calculated?
Look at the breakdown of points in any past event, it's not that hard to figure out.
First place is awarded 100 points + .01 point for everyone in the division other than themself.
After that you divide 100 by the # of players in your division then multiply by how many you beat.

Re: How are NEFA points calculated?
-- Sean's summary is correct althought you multiply by the number of people you beat or tied (INCLUDING YOURSELF)
--
-- Following is a cut/paste from the "Points Allocation" thread last year.
-- There were some discussions at the time of adjusting the formula/bonus but this year points come out the same.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not "in-the-know" but the formula works out to this:
(Point Total for Division / #players in Division) * #people you beat or tied = points
points + bonus = points awarded to you
We have historically gone with the following:
Points Total for Division = 100 regardless of size
#people you beat or tied includes yourself
points+bonus := where the bonus is non-zero (0.1 for every person in division) for 1st place finish only
For example - finishing in a two-way tie for 5th in a field of 12
both players (5th and 6th places having beaten or tied 8 players including themselves) receive:
(100 points / 12 players) * 8 beaten or tied =
8.33333 * 8 = 66.67 + 0 bonus = 66.67 points
To differentiate 1st place finishers in large divisions we seem to be giving a .1 bonus (to the first place finisher only) for every player in the division - including yourself.
If you finish first in a 1-player division you receive 100.1 points
If you finish first in a 34-player division you receive 103.4 points

Re: How are NEFA points calculated?
Bumping this discussion for a couple points-calculations items from a couple years ago. I never heard if we didn't go with these changes last year due to choice or if the discussions were forgotten...
-- Does the 'Bonus-for-winning' need to get increased this year from the (.1 * #PeopleinDivision) used in the past two years?
There was another thread (John Hart's?/Josh Connell's?) saying that we had gone with a .3 or .4 bonus a few years back to get greater separation for winners of large-atttendee events but that .1 seems to have crept in with the switch to an automatic points system.
There also were discussions on whether the current 'highest same points for everyone tied' should be "sum points of everyone tied and divide by NumberofThem. By that I mean that currently in a 10-player division with 3 people tied for 2nd you currently get 90 points each. Should it be (90+80+70)/3 = 80 points each (with 6th place getting 60 points in both methods)?
It is certainly acceptable for 'highest points for everyone tied' to be the way to go simply because it is far easier to calculate the points this way.

Re: How are NEFA points calculated?
If someone DNFs in your division, does it mess with the calculation? For example, AM2 Buff last weekend had 11 people start, 10 finish, 1 DNF. The points appear to be calculated based on 11 people (each place is essentially worth ~9.09 points). I got 4th by myself out of 11, but only got 63.64 (what I think is 5th place points), where I think I should have 72.73 points... (2nd should be 90.91, 3rd 81.82, 4th 72.73, etc). Anyone have any insight? Or are the points just incorrect?

Re: How are NEFA points calculated?
eric, thanks for pointing that out. the DNF came in "0th" place (obviously not a real placing
) so it threw off the math for your division. fixed now.

No sweat Dave, I am as interested in how it all works as I am in my own standings

well for whatever it's worth, you had the rest of the math right
