Acker's Acres in Maine

Post by Dave & Barb Acker »

Hi All, have never used this format for anything other that asking a question or responding to one. So I truly hope that this is not inappropriate...am sure I will find out if it is tho!! lol
Acker's Acres Disc Golf Course has just opened twelve new holes. In combo with 6 of our existing holes we have come up with our 2nd course. We played it Sunday the 23rd for our dbl's tournament for the very first time. Also, we are formatting a score card that will allow for a 28 hole course with a par of 103, it was played for the first time last nite 7/24!!! We have been busy ...honest!!
We would like to take this opportunity to also announce our 5th annual Bohemian Coffee Cup Tournament that will be taking place on August 19th. Lots of additional money is being donated for prizes by "Parrot Painters" of Richmond Maine. Barbara and I will be putting on a pig roast with all the fixins after the tournament included in the cost. For more information please go to our website, which hopefully will be updated today, or call 737-2656 or 837-4431.

Hey Dave,

Congratulations on getting your new holes up and running. I'm looking forward to shooting over from Vermont again to get a look at the new lay out, perhaps I'll be able to make it over for the tourney. Top notch disc golf and Barbara's cooking is definitely worth the 5 hr. trip.

Hope to see you all then.

What a great tournament, three cheers to Dave and Barbara and Paul for putting on such a great event.

The new holes look wonderful, and from what I was hearing throughout the day, they are very tough.

In case some of you NEFA Land players have not been out to this course lately, I would put it on your list of courses to play. They have done a lot of work here, and what a difference, New holes, new signs, new pro shop,
Alot of work has been going on and you can see the difference.

GOOD JOB!!!!!
:D

Wow, well Thank You Kim for the kind words. It was, in our opinion, a very successful tournament. I surely was overwhelmend by the turnout and all the smiling faces.
A very big Thank you goes to Paul H, who roasts the fresh coffee for the Bohemian Coffee shop and distributes to other customers as well!!! Great Job Paul and Hannah for your sponsoring this tounement for five straight years now.
Also, another big Thanks to Parrot Painters of Richmond Maine who donated an additional $250 towards making the prizes quite significant.
We all here had a great time, was very nice seeing our regular players and all the unfamiliar faces as well. Thank You All so much for making it the best so far!!!
Now do remember that the ace pot was at an even $100 and will be held over till next year for the "Sixth Annual Bohemian Coffee Cup Tournament"!!!!

Geesh, guess its been awhile since I have been here!!!
A quick note...first of all we would love to thank all of you that have played Acker's Acres this year. It has been a very succesful year for us. Much more money and labor has been expended on our course and the results have been very rewarding. Our new course [actually only twelve new holes in combination with six existing ones, have had mixed reviews. Some say it is very tough with a 700' and a 600' hole and some difficult par 3's. However, thank goodness, most like it very much and understand that we are not finished with it yet.
Barbara and I are looking forward to completing some fairly large projects this winter as well as taking care of some smaller issues that time had not allowed this season.
For those of you that dont play during the winter months we will be looking forward to seeing you this spring.
Also, one of these cold rainy days real soon we plan on updating our web site with lots of pics taken throughout the season....finally!! lol
Once again, we Thank You for checking us out as well as all the other wonderful courses here in Vacationland.

They were grooming but I think they weren't getting enough traffic to make it worth their time and effort. People still are playing there but not groomed last I knew. CR Farm in Gardnier is still grooming and Dragan Field in Auburn and WoodlandValley in Limerick

2006 since I posted anything on here? Damn!!

We were grooming the course this winter until it just became overwhelming and the extreme cold was keeping many golfers away. Should be back in action soon...all this rain is helping!

Since I havent posted anything on here for awhile allow me to fill you folks from away in a little. My wife and I continue working on the course all the time making improvements along with the major task of keeping it maintaned. We also started last fall constructing six more holes to complete two seperate 18 hole courses. The snow this winter shut us down but planning on getting going again soon.

We enjoy having so many people play here from other parts of New England. Its sometimes funny to see the parking lot half full and not one car from Maine!!! Has happened a few times. For those of you that have we cant thank you enough. For those that havent we invite you to check us out when coming this way. We want lots of people to see the stone wall that was constucted on hole 14 of the original course. One of the most amazing stone walls I have ever seen and built by a couple of dg'ers with all the stone supplied by my wife and I from our own property. It really is something to see!!!!

The season will be starting soon...I hope cause I am tired of all the snow!!!!

A little update here...As of sometime in May we opened up 6 new holes to go with our "Twisted Twelve"!! Now we have two seperate 18 hole courses with no sharing holes. The word "awesome" is most frequently used by the players to describe those new holes and the way it plays into the twisted twelve.

More than likely some of you that come to this site have played it. I dont think we have ever had as many people from out of state here as we have had this year. If you feel like making the trek camping is available for a small fee!!!

The word is getting out. If you guys weren't so far up there, id be there just about every day!! Still trying to get a crew of my friends to go up and play a weekend...camp out and the whole 9 yards! Glow round for sure. I'll let you know if this ever gets close to happening.

I always keep an eye out for you guys and tournies. By the way, I saw an ad you guys had in a Maine magazine I saw in Freeport. It was an article on Disc Golf in Maine. Keep it up!!!
