NEFA Land boundaries - How far west does NEFA go?

Also the place for aces, near aces, beautiful birdies and enormous eagles.

NEFA Land boundaries - How far west does NEFA go?

Post by Jeff Wiechowski »

Warwick, Joralemon and Hyzer are pretty much the furthest western courses.

Should the new courses like Central Park-Schenctaday(CPS), Hunter Mountain and Blatnick Park be brought into NEFA Land also ?

Scotia, NY is also interested in having a course..........

Of course-Nefa in New York keeps getting bigger and better.

New York + New Jersey are the only states in Nefa that have courses outside of Nefa Land. Central Park, Blatnick, and Hunter are within Nefa range.

If I could get NJ on board with the NEFA dubz might really stretch the border out

with the upcoming Worlds I would think many Nefa members will be flocking to that region of NY

Not that there HAS to be some defined geographical distance / boundary, but Campgaw (since its inception) HAS been included in NEFA whereas Dunham Park (the next course heading south in NJ) has not. It's just an arbitrary line that had to be drawn somewhere I guess :| .

If one "measures out" Campgaw to what some consider the center of NEFAland - Worcester - it's about 3hrs (+/- a bit). If you extrapolate that northward (northeast OR northwest) you get NEFAland in ME, NH, VT, and NY which is quite a bit more than 3 hours from Wustah. Soooooo, maybe Woosterr (WIish anyone?) isn't the center of the dg world  .

Who knows.

A line is just a line (but those OB lines REALLY suck!).

Karl
Ps: The only detriment I see in 'expanding' NEFA's boundaries are that 'when you grow, you (have a tendency to) divide'...as is almost happening with ME now :( .

Using the ~3 hour circle method..............

Driving time from Worster, MA to Mahwah, NJ = 3 hrs, 11 mins
Driving time from Worster, MA to Providence, NY(Hyzer Creek) = 3 hrs, 12 mins

Driving time from Worster, MA to Schenectady, NY = 2 hrs, 39 mins
Looks like Central Park & the future courses at Blatnick Park and Indian Meadows(Scotia, NY) are all "in the circle"

Karl.....

If someone will TD a doubles event that somewhat fits into the NEFA dubz schedule...notice I have spots saved for NJ then it will happen..I trust once Events start happening then the ball will keep rolling in the right direction...

If someone will commit to 1.... I am sure I will find another to keep the 2 per State goal I am trying to accomplish....

I had brought this up before but i think it needs to be revisited. Some new courses have appeared that could be considered to be within the "circle".

Plattsburgh, NY has a new 18 hole course which no farther north than Blackfalls/Cherry Hill. I've not spoken to the Adirondack DGC about joining NEFA but it might be considered to be within the circle.

If Campgaw is included in the circle, than Buzzy's should be too.

The map below shows all the 18+hole courses that are within NEFA boundaries.

What, no love for the 9-holers  ?

Generally, the more x's you have of anything (in our case, courses) in an area, the smaller the area is that people believe they're a part of.
Example: When J-Park was the only course near Albany, a lot of people wanted it to be part of something bigger...and NEFA was near / convenient. Ten years from now, there may be so many courses in the Albany area that everyone will associate J-Park ONLY with DisCap (as that will be the "governing" body very near J-Park), etc.

Bottom line might be that the "Powers that be" at any fringe course decide whether they're considered a part of that entity or not.

Karl
Ps: And if you're worried about the sanctioning part of everything, I say "don't" - as didn't NEFA give sanctioning to one (or more) dg tournaments WAY down south :?: ? Dispensations can always be wrangled in there somewhere  .

And not that this means a hill of beans...

...but if you look at the "present spread" of courses (although I wish the little courses were thrown on that map too), it looks like there are factions already splintering (or could be) !

ME is one. Northern VT is another. Central MA for sure. Greater metro NYC (this could include everything from Bridgeport down to Rutgers). Albany area. And any periphery courses from there would 'choose' which way they wish to lean  .

Remember, as we grow we'll divide...and NEFA will be an umbrella organization (even more so than now) :| .

I only included the 18 hole courses because they're the only ones we really run tournaments at.

Believe me, I'm a fan of the 9 holers..... they're where i discovered the game !

Yo you guys I love this IDEA. NEFA land has no boundaries like me. Let's just keep out the Tournament Idea for now.
Once it's figured out. I got tons of idea
