merrell: chameleon 4 gtx vs. refuge ultra gtx
Anyone try either of these shoes? Need to replace my Moabs (because they fell apart). Trying to decide between these two and looking for reviews for either style, the Chameleon 4 or the Refuge Ultra. Thanks!

I'd like to know how they turn out for you. I replaced my Moabs every 6 months or so for the last few years (4-5 times total) and finally moved on to some Keen shoes at xmas. The toe quickly fell apart on the Moabs every time, because I drag the toe.

Jeff, I have the same issue, and I was frustrated when the entire front half of the sole on my pivot foot came detached during a round. I like the fit of Merrells though, and I find the Keen toe too boxy and open for true comfort. It looks like wrap-around toe of the Chameleon may offer a solution to my issue, but perhaps not...thus this thread

Jon, try something by Columbia. Mine have lasted twice as long as any pair of Merrells i've ever owned, and the fit is similar. The only Merrell shoes / boots I've ever been happy with are my Thermo 6 boots. They just don't last long enough for the price, every pair I've owned have ripped or the sole comes detached from the shoe.

Re: merrell: chameleon 4 gtx vs. refuge ultra gtx
Stopped into LL Bean in South Windsor CT today, and they had the Chameleon 4 gtx on sale for $119. Better price than anywhere online, and many sizes (saw 11, 12, 9.5, 8, and some others). Also saw Keen Targhee II's for $99 (which may or may not be a deal). Either way, I had some stuff to return there (very open return policy there) and ended up getting the Chameleons for $25 out of pocket. They are real comfortable, and I look forward to seeing how they perform on the course (when this dang snow melts!)
