Set Schedule

Post by Todd Lapham »

Let's get this discussion going so everything is out in the open and captains don't jump to a decision without realizing possible downsides before voting.

I personally don't like the idea of a set schedule as there are more cons than pros, but let's hear some thoughts.

There really is only one pro to having a set weekend and that's having more advance notice as to when you'll be playing.

The cons are:

-If a team has a commitment that they'll all be at that weekend, they'll be forced to forfeit. (Weddings, funerals, vacations etc.)
-Multiple challenges happening at the same course, especially during the neutral month.
-No flexibility for local tournaments.
-Weather becomes a much bigger factor, especially driving conditions.
-If it's not a specific day of the week, it's still the same problem of not knowing whether you're playing on a Sat or Sun and people still won't have advance notice to take off work.
-If it is all Sat or all Sun, some people won't be able to play at all.

What do you guys think?

Stupid idea, can't see why the current fluid system isn't acceptable for people. YOU HAVE 18 people, 10 need to show, JC.

I like the set sched idea, I personally have had alot of issues with scheduling this year (not saying I am not at fault for some of it) but I think if its set then that will eliminate alot of the problems, or maybe give a option of 2 weekends a Month? I just feel with a set schedule it would be a little better oraganized, and no more we cant do that weekend cause there is a tourny or not that day cause our best players cant play if its set like 2nd weekend of every month u could still be flexible with weather its sat or sun, or if you get the option of 2 weekends you have 4 potential days, courses and td's will run into less tourny attendance issues (I dont know if thats a real problem but ive seen enough people bring it up) and it will be easier on captains to sched, just my opinion.

seen it happen this year when a local team could not even attend their local IB...leaving 20 spots open in the event...hmmmm how many on a team?

Set. Second weekend of every month. Captains should further vote on Saturdays or Sundays. I vote Saturdays. This will allow teams to recover from any potential drive that they have to make instead of going back to work the next day.

I would want to see an exact plan before I vote either way. If we have set schedules will there be a rain date automatically in place? Will it be a weekend or a specific day that it is scheduled. What would be the penalty,if any, for having to reschedule? What happens if the course is being used that day? How will this be handled for neutral challenges?

I like the set schedule idea, just need to know how it will be implemented before I can vote.

Thanks Todd for trying to get an early start on this.

I agree with Dakai about panning out some issues before giving a definitive vote, but I like the idea of set schedules.

Could just have the last weekend of the month be the default and have the captains have the choice to arrange an alternative.

Nobody would play in December, make it the second weekend.

This is exactly right. Matches are supposed to be in a target month. The last day of that month becomes the default due date unless captains can schedule earlier.

As for December/January, there is more incentive to get it scheduled earlier (depending on weather), but there's no real reason it couldn't be at the end of January if that's what the teams want.

Solbo and I scheduled March (NASA @ Burgess) -- couldn't have been any easier. 1 quick phone call and a couple text messages later, done -- we have a date that meets both teams needs.

I havent had much trouble scheduling. Usually a quick phone call or email and boom, its on. I do see the trouble that goes on though. Maybe a default date or BOTH teams take the loss...Ya right!!!
