Zones, anyone throw em?

Post by Anthony Dembinski »

Anyone throw a zone? I just got a Z Zone and havent tested it out yet. Need to figure out its role in my bag. Love the fact thatits VERY overstable. I am curious to hear how it flys for you and what shots you use it for.

I use it as a utility disc. Anything where I need that real hard fade.

I don't tend to throw them with real power, so not a disc im looking to get too much distance with

Great disc! I use it alot as an OH Sh!t what did i get myself into disc! Great for flicking and backhand when you need touch shots with hard fade and a Predator or Drone is too much. Don't expect to get distance out of it.

Good for short (100ft or less) "S" shots...backhand or flick...it's going to be very overstable.

I got that instead of a :pig:

I just started throwing Zones. Bumped the Pig and VP from my bag. I love the feel of the Pro-D ones, but I just picked up a couple Zs to try.

Got it in. Time to go test it out... what a great day to test this putter. 40+ mph gusts!

threw it for the first time today. flicked it to try it on hole 1 at buff and then proceeded to throw a real shot and left the z zone as i kept playing. Didnt realize it until hole 4. Ran back and it was still there. Thank god it was early and we were basically alone.

always lose discs on practice shots- i'm a bit neurotic with counting discs now, and with my grip bag (sorry for the shameless plug) i can tell when it's low a disc because of the way the discs move when i pick it up... it's rigid and i can hear the discs flopping around more when i'm short one (if i want to carry less that round i'll put my extra towel, which i always have anyway, in that corner spot)

Wow i didnt notice how bad i typed that on my phone.

I was anal about counting my discs after every hole but now that i cut down i can tell by looking. Sadly this disc was new so i wasnt looking for it lol.

the Zone is one of my favorites. Have two in the bag, a new Z and a beat to hell D. great forehand roller, flick approach, short hyzer drives, short flex shots, you name it.

i happened to pick one up a couple days before Saturday's team challenge- it was 50 mph wind gusts with 30 mph sustained winds. so i putted with the Zone. I don't really know if it performed that well, i just know that "2" with the arrow on it made me feel better about missing my 10 footers ALL DAY.

i did come close to canning a 40 foot flick between two trees with it- that will be a repeated event (the flick) for years to come i imagine...

I just started throwing Zones. Bumped the Pig and VP from my bag. I love the feel of the Pro-D ones, but I just picked up a couple Zs to try.

2nd.

I absolutely love the Zone. I'm a die-hard Rhyno & Summit player so everyone pushed me towards the Pig & VP when they came out for overstable approaches and specialty shots. Pig was good for some touch-flicks but backhand it felt like I was holding a textbook. VP and I never dialed in.

Because I love flat-top Discraft middies (I carry 2 Buzz, 1 Buzz SS, & 1 Hornet) I went out and got me an ESP Zone and within 2 rounds both the Pig and VP were out of my bag. The Zone is a touch faster than both discs it replaces, but its SO low profile and flat, you can eat off the top of it. Awesome for touch-flicks. Straight with fade for slightly harder flick approaches, and absolutely awesome for sub-200' headwind straight shots, normal wind hyzer approaches, or putting around that one tree between you and the basket.

For any player, feel is the most important thing. You can take one of many similar flying discs, and if it feels good you can make it do whatever. I love how this disc feels.

i further endorse the zone now
had it in my bag for a couple months at this point
but its just so remarkably slow- with no glide really

so in addition to liking the approach flick
i like throwing drives with it
of course nothing over 250 really, but also reliably never coming close to 275 either...

good disc
i throw the ESP version- it feels almost like an FLX but it isn't
i like the look of those Z ones, but haven't thrown one yet
