We will be refurbishing our drop zones at Maple Hill this year to offer a better playing surface to shoot from. Done by the end of April.

I personally don't like them for O.B. Makes me fell like I have no choice on the matter. Just because there is a Rec/Alt tee doesn't designate a NEED for a drop.

Mando drops are neccesary and default but you still get to choose.

I'll take umbrage with the definitiveness with which these are stated.
Drop zones are NOT essential in any way, shape or form in dg! They ARE 'accepted' and 'ingrained' in their use in a lot of courses (and how they're used in those courses) but they are NOT required.

If you miss a mandatory (if you HAVE to use a mando), why not shoot again from your last lie with a stroke penalty? Or just throw again not counting the missed mando's disc's lie but counting the throw (depending on how penal you wish to make "missing the mando" to be, you could use either of these scenarios)? Remember, it is known that a mando has been "missed" before the lie is removed (either the tee or the marker in the fairway), so you could always invoke the scenario(s) I've mentioned and not use a drop zone.

But then a spotter WOULD be required for holes that have a blind OB line from the tee/lie.
Example: I tee off and my disc disappears over a hill in the fairway, kicks off a tree and lands OB. Where do I throw from?

No cookie does not present a valid point. A spotter is NEVER required...only wanted / preferred (usually for "time considerations" - where you don't have to go back to the tee).

The option of a retee doesn't seem to have been read here .

Let's not confuse "what is essential" and "what is preferred".

If the TD (in a tournament) wishes to have a retee (no matter how 'blind' the shot / long the trudge back may be), they can! And will. They're the TD (and they, in this case, don't even need to get any sanctioned body's "OK" on it)! It may not be a good choice or a popular one BUT it can be done (unfortunately, I've seen / been a part of such).

It's because we're in the "rules" section of the MB here - and god knows there are enough "non-rule rules" that people espouse out there (to confuse newbies, etc.) - that I'm a stickler for accuracy. The rest of the MB we KNOW can be infiltrated with "opinions", but I'd like to think ONE - this one - should have things stated as simply as possible (so as not to confuse more than will already be).

For me I think drop zone is easier for noobs, AM2, AM1 and Karl. It's quicker soo nobody have to wait for them arguing where they went OB.

Good question Karl, I would say it depend if AM1 fields is strong and there is good challenge or if you want to take care of business before you move up to Pro. completely. My attitude sucks I'm all about taking down the best players. I'm a catholic I fear no man except gay people.
