Hey, start a father's day tournament. You have a wonderful section of land, it could be a BBQ and a casual tourney.

great course

Post by Daniel Marcus »

I played here Sunday afternoon and all I can say is WOW! What a beautiful place, with a such a challenging course, and a gracious host to boot... I can't wait to get back and play a round for score now that I know the shots... open field crushes, shorter open bird opportunities, little tunnel shots and wicked winding par 4s...this course has it all.

I shot a 58 which if memory serves me is about 1 or 2 under par. It only took me 40 minutes to get there, which I am extremely psyched about.

Everyone is going to love this one... remember to throw those sticks off to the side and help manicure the place!

NH has a great new course

Post by nhkilpatric »

:D Wow! What a great course. Thank you Blaze and Lisa for all your hard work. Everyone reading this please do yourself a favor and check out this new course. The web site offers new pictures showing the meadows with stone walls, the woods, the awful dog legs (there are 2 of them and they are great challenges), and the hay field (you still have to go around bends or throw blindly over a rise). It is a beautiful course. Check out the Concord (NH) Monitor article about this new Barnstead course.

WHAT A GREAT COURSE!!!!!

Post by Ranger Dave »

I saw the pictures of the course on their website and could tell it was a beautiful and challenging course right away. I played it for a couple of hours this afternoon and all I can say is I was not disappointed. The course seemed a little easy at first even from the blues tees and I was 2 under par by the 4th hole. The further along I went though the more challenging the course got with some real precision shots required. They also seemed to get a little longer on the back nine.( maybe I was just getting tired heh heh heh). Anyway I ended up 4 over par and ill admit it wasnt my best game but I shot ok. This is a well thought out course with nice amenities like cold drinks and little games for the kiddies and loaner discs for newbs. Lisa was their to meet me and my friend and she is just so sociable it felt like Id known her for ages. What a great hostess. I could go on and on but you must try this course out for yourself.
Support this course if you want to see more quality courses in New Hampshire.

course update, misc

Post by Blaze Konefal »

Some recent changes to the course are:
elevated white tee on number 3
new steps put in on number 3
Addition of an "orange tee" series for beginners, very close to the Acerace placements
overhanging branches trimmed on number 12
stump removal on number 5
Depending on snow cover, we plan on being open all winter in a self-serve capacity.
We just had a Teen Tournament (Oct 22) and Parent Tournament. Weather was great. Play was from the Orange T's. Even Mr. Prickles was around to watch the play!
Teen winners were:

First Place: Tom Faiella, Forest Konefal Score: 50 They tied after 1 playoff hole and agreed to split the prize money.
Second Place: See above
Third Place: Kelly Thomas Score: 59
Longest Throw: Tom Faiella
Closest to the Basket: Kelly Thomas

Parent Tournament:
First Place: Mark Thomas Score: 49
Second Place: Blaze Konefal Score: 56
Third Place: Bob Vaillancourt Score: 66 First time he ever played Disc Golf !

So far it has been a wonderful adventure for Lisa and I to build/open a Disc Golf course and met all of you wonderful people! Thanks to you for all your support and encouragement.!!

Was heading up to my friends camp in Acton, ME on Saturday and decided that since this course was on the way (well sort of) it would be a great opportunity to verify all of the positive feedback I had been reading about it. I must say it is everything and more than I expected. As soon as we stepped out of our vehicle I could tell that this course was going to be a gem. There was an old farmhouse with a rustic barn overlooking a lush green meadow that contained a couple of groups of disc golfers. Lisa happened to be in front of the barn splitting wood. She immediately greeted us with that warm smile I had read about and welcomed us to her place. It was a little late in the day so I think she was a bit surprised to see us. I told her we were just passing through and was hoping to get in a quick round before dusk. She showed us the way to the kiosk and told us the course was fairly easy to navigate. She couldn’t have been more right. There was a suitable map on the back of the scorecard and the course itself had great signage to go by. Some holes used the same tee pads while others had separate tee pads for different skill levels. We chose to man up and play the longest layout (blue tees). After having birdie attempts on the first three fairly open fairway holes I was thinking to myself this course is going to be pretty easy. Man was I wrong! The course moved into the woods from that point for holes 4 through 12 and the difficulty level increased immediately. Precision throwing became a mandate. The fairways got tighter and the distances seemed to increase. Most of the holes were doglegs that favored both right handed and left handed players. One hole even offered two fairways to choose from. There were some nice elevation changes that allowed both uphill and downhill approaches. There was also a very long L-shaped fairway that required a lot of skill (and patience) to produce a low score on. After that the holes moved back out into the meadow area for three holes. It was nice to be able to launch some bombs again without having to worry about trees getting in the way. Then it was back in the woods again for two more holes (one containing a mando to make it play more difficult). Lastly the course finished with one nice and long meadow hole that featured a dogleg right with a blind pin placement. It was pretty dark by this point, but the hole still offered a magnificent sky view in the distance with orange and pink hues as I was putting out. Missed the putt so I’ll blame it on the view  . One nice footnote was while my friend was putting on hole 14 there was a porcupine a mere 10 feet away from him. Yeah he missed the putt, but I admire his courage. A couple of real nice touches were each teeing area had color-coded pieces of wood to designate the different distances from the pin. Also there were some fine handcrafted stairways and elevated tee pads made out of all natural timber. They blended in nicely with the surroundings. It was more than evident that a lot of hard work and love went into the making of this course. I only wish I had gotten there earlier to enjoy it some more, but there is no doubt in my mind that I will be back. Thank you Blaze and Lisa!

Just found something on the Beauty Hill Website that deserves a mention here. A couple from out west visited a course in every state and rated Beauty Hill as Excellent - the only course in their nation-wide tour to receive this rank.

While the sample was NOT representative (they missed some of New England's best courses), I think this is a real feather in the cap for the owners and managers in Barnstead. Great Job!

Check this course out. Changes and improvements are ongoing. The NH double points tourney this year is in Barnstead and I hope folks come out and see that this course is worth it!!!

See: users.kitcarson.net/ttace/index.htm and follow the link (near the bottom) to see their course comments.

no offense to you guys since ive never played barnstead, but I'm wondering what they loved about your guys' course so much when even Warwick only received a "Great" on their personal scale and no "Excellent".

Always nice to hear kind words about your course though, with luck I can make it up there for the 2x this year to finally check it out myself :D

Hey Dave,
Based on their website, I get the sense that the folks making the rankings are focused on family friendly courses, and maybe not pure disc golf considerations. By that I mean that someone looking for a course that is designed to challenge the top disc golfers would have a very different ranking system. Barnstead will develop into a better course from this perspective over time, but right now it provides good golf in an excellent setting.

recent course changes

Post by Blaze Konefal »

Some recent changes made based on wonderful comments from Bob Enman and Gordy Adell. Thanks guys.
Hole #3 out of bounds marked on leftside along stonewall to keep disc off road.
Hole #6 Blue/White tee moved slightly forward and to the right. Now the fairway is straight ahead.
Hole #11 By Blue tee, brush cutback so there is a shot for the lefthand fairway.
Hole #12 Brush and eye-poking branches trimmed at the corner. Kyle really recommended this also.
Hole #14 basket moved into woods on left, just before big pine tree. This will reduce number of discs going into #15's fairway.
Hole #15 forthcoming - Move blue tee to down by driveway and basket to leftside of field by #16 tee. This will be a looong diagonal toss up and over the field.
Hole #16 Blue and white tees moved closer to stonewall and to the right. Now the fairway is a straight throw,
Hole #17 Mandatory sign removed and brush/limbs trimmed under the pines.
Check out these changes and let us know what you think of them.
More changes will be forthcoming - possibly hole #2 basket moved left and movement of red tees on some holes.

Anyone know how far Woods at Beauty Hill is from rte 93N? I'm going up to Loon Mtn (Lincoln) tomorrow and was thinking of a stopover to check out the course.

I haven't been there, but I plan on going there on my way back to Plymouth after spring break. However I am guessing about 25-30 minutes. I know coming from the south you have to get off in concord and take Rte. 4 to the Epsom traffic circle. I know from going to my brothers house that the Epsom circle is just about 15 minutes from 93. The directions say its about 9 north from the Epsom Traffic circle. Hopefully someone that has played there will respond before you go, but if not, then I would go with 30 minutes or so.

It's 30min from the highway.

I've been there a few times and you might find mapping sites tell you to take 93 to 3 to 28 but don't believe it. Sites will also guide you to a dirt road at the end which also sucks so take 93 to 15E.

I'll PM you some great directions. If anyone else needs them just pm me.

Some future events we are planning on having are:

Sometime in April or May (depending on ground conditions) A work day to pick up the course.

June 10th Open House (It's our 1st anniversary!) free disc golf, some fun contests. More information on the website soon.

June 7th start of the Thursday night bag tag league. all welcomed.

July 21 NEFA 2X point tournament. We are working out the costs and prizes and expect to announce details in April.

Major goals for this year are to make more and better tee areas, a parking lot, Route 28 State Highway signs, a different sign-in method, monthly contests, and a small retail store.

Blaze, I am very interested in trying your course at Beauty Hills- Have been a newbie since August and will be up that way around the 18th of June and would like if you or someone can show me around the course on the 18th if possible. My flight gets in around 1:00 and would very much like to stretch my legs and throw a round- Thanks in advance; Naomi

Isn't this a great sport!! I only started last June. Hope to meet you.

It's a wonderful sport! When you first start playing it is hard until you get that one great shot you were looking for; and that's what keeps you coming back! I look forward to playing the course :)
