S.I.T. in Brattleboro
Hey Chris and all,
This would be good place to talk about S.I.T.'s course instead of veering off the topic in NH's course discussion.
I did went to SIT today to check out what's there and I was surprised to see how big the open lands are!!!
Google map it at 42.889903,-72.566223
This is what I'm talking about, absolutely perfect for a solid 18-hole course, might OR might not be a championship-caliber course though.
Its perfect for long bombs over rolling hills!! Some hard left or right turns around trees!! And there's water hazard (a pond?) behind SIT.
But I remember that you mentioned that you're looking into the land that are sort of outside of SIT's property. Not sure where is it.
Let's hope that the administration at SIT can allow us to have the free rein to design the course as I was allowed to do so at Austine course.

Re: S.I.T. in Brattleboro
HI Patrick,
Thanks for going to check it out.....I got shot down though! I went in for the 'sit down' and was a little apprehensive when some 'suits' came in. Long story short--new administration (liability/financial worries??)--I heard back on Friday that it, "would not work for them at this time......"
A couple leads that may have come out of it are, again--Memorial Park, and the Retreat lands. The grounds/facilities manager (SIT) gave me a contact to check with for the Retreat, and an old friend of the family's daughter may run the Memorial Park. Let me see what I can find out.
How is Austine looking???

Oh man, that really su#k big time!
They should have looked at other colleges that have DG courses that are open to public namely HCC or the future UMass and/or AUSTINE and so forth.
Funny, just last Sunday, after visiting my father, I checked out and played a round at Olin College's new 9-hole course in Neeham, MA (my Austine course has a LOT BETTER challenge holes than this one!) which is also open to public.
As for Memorial Park, its a bit toughie to figure out the first 4 holes on the hill before winging around the park. I can only see it as 9-holes there.
I would look into either Retreat OR Fort Dummers (since its a state park and shouldn't be a big hurdles) which has 217 acres of land full of woods. We could do 18 holes at either places.
We'll put SIT's status on hold until more SIT students voice their interests to have one.

I think it came down to a liability scare.....apparently they talked to their insurance company and that was it! Too bad. On hold for now--time to focus on Austine, Memorial Park, Fort Dummer, the Retreat......etc.

Pat you around in AM?
Geez...I got back from April Shower 7 last night and didn't look into the forum or get any PM message from you and Karl about visiting Austine in the very next day.
Sorry, did you guys played yet or not? If not, PLEASE do let me know in advance!!
NOT GOOD IDEA TO PLAY ROUNDS DURING SCHOOL HOURS (8AM-330PM).
Somehow last week, someone move #6A tee to the front of #5 basket!! Grrr!!! Gotta make that tee permanent in its rightful places!! Yes, 6A are farther back not closer to #6 basket!!

Alright, no problem.
Just let me know which day because I might be heading to Hyland Brewery for a round or two or maybe meeting up a friend at Ross' Run to show him the new course this weekend.

Re: S.I.T. in Brattleboro
Hey Patrick was that you we saw on Monday, 7/3 early afternoon? I had a chance to play the course twice while we were up in Brookline (town north of Newfane) for our annual 4th of July gathering. One of our guys read about it in DGCR. We were a group of 5 that had just finished.
Discovered Tully from Brookline just before the went from 9 to 18 holes--it was too long a drive though.
The Austine School course is a great addition to the area. We go to the camp in Brookline every 7/4 and again for a weekend in September.
I have to say it is a bit rough, but they all start out that way. The 8th hole is a great bomber and I didn't see the alt tee. It would be too easy to pick apart the layout without learning the parmeters the school gave you for the course.
Looking forward to playing it again when we head up the weekend of 9/21.
