ACOE DG COURSE KEENE DESIGN GREEN LIGHT WORK SOON

Ok this needs a lil more attention then just a NH course thread because it is just that awesome for several reasons!
A lil back ground on Keene DG, It has been a mission that not many people have heard about. A few dedicated DG'ers faced non stop shut downs for well over 5 years now. The City shot down every attempt and land just never could be allotted. These warriors didn't quit at times I am sure it was tough seeing all these awesome courses go up and they still had to travel hour plus to play living in a major college city with decent population frustrating I am sure.
Well if your patient good things happen.! Right as some old skoolers were losing faith some fresh minds, hearts came on the scene pooling their resources and now they can say DISC GOLF is coming to KEENE in Spring of 2012!
Ok the best part..its on the BEST ACOE property I have seen to date and I know my DAMS!
Its virgin land and does not conflict with anything..no trails,dogs,(dirt)bike(s),fishing,...to sum it up NOTHING! the areas allotted and I use that lightly the 40-60 acres they said hey put it anywhere!..and prob another 100 acres outback for another 18 once DG is a hit and it will be!
It host a great lake..that won't flood any of the course! a river..low 4 feet crystal clean holes will play over it..maybe 1-2 times..a great parking area..the course will be 2 split 9's and ya can come back through parking area between nines..with ease! and actually will be awesome for events ect ect..they said yes to kiosk, will move gates for DG parking..they want PEEEEEPS at their property having fun! pffff..right that is all they want?..we will have peeeps their!
They said this put your flags, markings out..if we like(and they were liberal) only rule nothing monster sized for tree removal basically cuz it sux..cut what ya want where ya want here there and well every where..and the icing on the cake...if we like the markings we will come cut it all remove it and dig your tees and baskets cuz we have any equipment you will ever need cuz we are the CORE that needs a TEAM America F yeah for sure!
If anyone has ever worked at a core property they understand what this means...it basically means we will have a championship gem added to SNH,The core series,Pdga Events,Nefa series and introducing DG to well a HUGE number of people in a DG dead area..we can present a great product here cuz the design is not dictated by other REC areas ect ect ect
They have ZERO trash cans on the entire property and don't want any..I brought trash bags to grab any on our walk through..guess what ZERO trash on the entire property..hmm they might be onto something there...so the KDGC will have to work hard on educating and policing the locals when it comes to trash ect ect..they have some plans to introduce the course under some closed clinics to start..to give it a fresh start at least
They need some more money for baskets and I will give my official seal of they will go to GREAT USE!..they are close just need some broad DG support to get 18 in

Re: ACOE DG COURSE KEENE BREAKING GROUND AWESOME
Awesome post Titan, as one of the "core" Keene Disc guys, I am psyched to have you and Johnny B on board. This course with some mindful planning really could be something special. I am excited to see DG take off in this area and look forward to being an Ambassador of sorts for the course. The NEFA support is appreciated greatly by all involved!
I'd be a lot better if those trees didn't get in the way.

Re: ACOE DG COURSE KEENE BREAKING GROUND AWESOME
Hey everyone, laid out nine holes at otterbrook yesterday. Found some sweet natural fairways in the woods we had not seen. Can't wait to play. We will have our work cut out for us to make it through the woods on holes 7,8,9, but those guys seem ready to massacre some lumber. Looks like at least six ready to go with minimal trimming. Just asked Jim Lewis (the main guy at the dam) today about funding on their end, waiting for reply. I have another check for 1 basket and are awaiting two more. That's nine!!! I am available weekdays after 2:30 if anyone wants to check it out. We will also be out there this weekend at some point, time TBA. Thanks everone, we are so close!!! Thanks Titan, nice work.

Great news about this course! The above quote reminds me of when I first came on to this discussion forum and raised the issue about how trash cans on courses (and in open spaces in general) can possibly be a negative incentive to trash disposal. If you don't see trash cans (and you have some degree of responsibility

Re: ACOE DG COURSE KEENE BREAKING GROUND AWESOME
naw Andrew...not much of a thread drifgt at all..cuz IMO that is a great point to put across..the concept is scary but seems it works better...as I seen literally ZERO trash on their property
Might be tough to adapt to this after trash cans were there..but some new course might wanna try this philosophy

these guys got smoked peeps awhile back during that big rain storm
as of right now I believe they need some design help..I have walked the property several times with them and early designs included some areas that were in the impact zone.
the ACOE is so busy cleaning up the damage they can't move through with the DG course..as they have to do most of work due to lack of volunteer insurance issues I believe
in this current "down time" I am sure they could use some input from some area VETS..it might be cool if a few can take some time and try to help get these guys a solid design so once work can begin they are ready to capitalize on getting the course in
right now everyone that has attempted design just can't agree, rejected by rangers,or has recently been discovered to be no good as the actual level of water when at near maximum would be damaging to the course.
they have plenty of other land and some vets may add some insight missed or have ideas to maintain a safe, fun, sustainable course
Derek and Mark are easily reached and semi flexible for meeting..I am sure they would be excited to gain wisdom so they can achieve their goal long sought after DISC GOLF in KEENE...!!!!
Thanks

Re: ACOE DG COURSE KEENE DESIGN HELP NEEDED&RESURGEofENERGY
I will try to get that...
right off of rt9 just north of Keene
Derek is gonna work on making a map that indicates major flood areas..or ranger no go areas
this will be available to all interested..so they can have something to go off of..but not to skew new eyes with old ideas...
looking for fresh ideas here as nobody has come up with the magic formula yet..many have tried here
edit..I myself would have been in the major flood zone area..as I could not have envisioned such a demo scene...as they have even more flow then all other dams at key times..the way NH is shaped in that region creates a bowl that major water flows through
the focus may be shifted to a "devens" type of course on land of that terrain rather the more diverse original design intentions encompassing more of the available land

Re: ACOE DG COURSE KEENE DESIGN HELP NEEDED&RESURGEofENERGY
Not sure where my design/build credentials fall, but I live in Richmond,NH.. my wife and I have a business in Keene and having just gone through a fun time with the course at Petersham CC I'd love to help these guys get going when time allows my participation.. should it be of interest to anyone. I tend to see this stuff through ball golf perspective tho in terms of working with the land, so I may be of little use, but still would like to help. The off season for ball golf is when time really is available, and I have tools/saws/grunticles. (Grunticles ...new word I just copyrighted...meaning beastial work implements.)

Re: ACOE DG COURSE KEENE DESIGN HELP NEEDED&RESURGEofENERGY
should be fun...
and remember we just need to get a design approved for the KDGC..the rest ACOE will do when they have time..and 9 baskets are ready once that is done
just to give ya a feel for what is involved and the somewhat urgent to grasp the opportunity to fill a dg dead zone
the flooding that they got this spring was insane...but overall a blessing to instill the reality of the land and shift focus to "higher" ground
a few issues with the off season to in season parking and linking the players onto the course rather the long walk to get to a playable hole or hole 1 whatever season it is...IMO a must to get the newbs and abroad coming back w/o that "long walk" gripe..its been discussed if its an issue and I will say the conclusion should be it sucks
other then that connecting/flow issue(basically just needs to be incorporated more then it is an issue in all reality) the land offers some great terrain to get creative to fill in the blanks of the puzzle
cya all there

I'm planning on getting there around 5. Earlier if work allows. Here's the location off of Rte 9 near Keene in case anyone hasn't been there before. Park in the top lot right off of Rte 9, as that's where we want to start hole 1 from.

Re: ACOE DG COURSE KEENE DESIGN HELP NEEDED&RESURGEofENERGY
yeah thanks to all who showed..
my girl, dog and me arrived early for some good "thinking" time and scouting of the land
I can honestly say now that corner of the property is well scouted, and laid out to offer some great shots using some cool terrain..we link to the other land well and allows us to get to where we need to be
I pondered the future fusion points for when this goes 18..I have 3 plans for the fusion to be streamlined and seamless and offer the best configuration to cultivate holes..next time I am there I will lay that out..the other side I am not worried about as it has been scouted the most and I already know where some cool holes are to use for the back 5-7 holes
I think I may even of found a way to use that river..and have a start/finish point that allow little walking between holes..all while keeping that camp sites privacy
I may go up sunday to finish the job...and get this all marked out for rangers to give green light
I will go out on a limb and say I bet the rangers agree to this new design as all things were considered---wetlands,safety,propertylines,ease of access for work, ect ect
I know how these rangers think so if they have any issues we can give conclusive reasons for why we did what and where...we still have some room to shift slightly if they desire..
I also kept in mind short tee/alt tee positions out there...I did not speak much about this yesterday but my brain had them in mind..so next time I can show you all these alt tee positions...to provide an 18 loop of sorts earlier..as some holes need them..
question to those out there...is that hole to sick..? you all know what hole!!!...I think we have ourselves a monster that people will fear but respect!!
again Chris sorry for my language in front of the lil one...was all alone in the woods cursing at bugs/ect all day..once the village arrived couldn't turn the beast off
who is in for sunday to get the rest laid out???!!! will need most of a day

Thanks to all the folks that showed. I think some seriously good work was done. I'm planning on pitching the idea of a walk through the ACOE in a week or two, and I still need to the get the "agreement' issue settled.
Looks like some interesting holes.
Special thanks to Titan. I know this is long way from home, and I really appreciate you taking the time to work through the puzzle with us.
