Must be the good night sleep, or that it's friday but I'm ready to move forward. This is a minor set back. We really only lost three holes, and I think there are still cool holes to be discovered. Plus the ACOE said that would do most of the "heavy lifting" like clearing trees etc that we would like to see removed. Always a ying with the yang. We just have to find those awesome holes waiting for us.

Mark and I are planning on going out Sat. (depending on weather). We will post a time here.

Mark and I are planning on meeting at Otter Brook Friday at 3:30 to tag trees for the ACOE to cut, find some additional holes, and work on the flow for the first 9. All are welcome.

Hi folks,

It's been a while since our last update on the course. We have been able to find 9 legit holes (even without being allowed to use the brook holes). Cver the past couple of weeks we have flagged a bunch of trees for the ACOE to remove (at their offering). We are taking the ACOE around this Friday @ 2:30 (May 18th) to show them where the proposed holes are, and show them what we've flagged so far. If you have walked the area in the past not much has changed on the front 9 except no green monster hole. We are still utilizing part of the fairway and the pin placement though.

I'm also thinking now would be a good time to get together at Elm City to talk a little more formally about the club. We still need funding for 9 more baskets so fund raising is on the top of the list, as well as some other topics. I'm thinking June 7th @8 at Elm City. Let me know if that time works for people. We'll have a better idea of where the ACOE is with cutting of the course, and also gives people some time after the memorial day craziness.

I'll also spread the word via email so please let friends family, and pretty much let anyone who has expressed any interest in course in Keene know the date.

Onward to 18!

Couple of updates:

1. Keene Disc Golf meeting update. ACOE has agreed to let us use the park for our meeting. So that means we are starting earlier (6PM) in the park. Please park at the entrance from RTE9. The park closes at 8 so if you don't your car will be trapped and we'll have some angry rangers. Please please PLEASE, park in the lot off of Route 9 and walk in.

We are also planning on running a CTP with some portables as a fund raiser so bring some $. 5 bucks to enter.

2. The walkthrough went really well on friday. They are looking for a written agreement on what things the ACOE will do and what things the KDGC is responsible for. I have a quick draft put together I'm sending out this week, so we should get that agreed to soon. They said they are getting their big equipment back from another park in the area in the next couple of weeks. Once they get that stuff back, and they agree to the written statement they will begin cutting.

3. They also gave us permission to start clearing fairways anytime we want! I have a bunch of things going on the next couple of weekends, but if you are interested in putting in some hours contact Mark B (603-313-3731) and we can arrange something.

We need:
Pole saws
Weed wackers
metal rakes lopers

That type of thing. We'll need to figure out storage of tools, but for now everyone is in charge of what they can bring.

Any questions let me know.

WORK DAY:

Hey folks. Mark, Rob and I are planning on going to Otter Brook saturday (May 26th) to clear fairways 5, 6 and 7. We are thinking around 11 or so. We have weed Wackers, loppers and a post hole digger for 3 baskets. If anyone has a pole saw and can come that would be great.

So we've had a LOT of rain/flooding/frustration here over the last couple of days. It can be seen as a good thing in some ways; at least we know the issues with building in Otter Brook Park. Holes 1 and 2 are poison ivy heaven. Basket 1 would have been washed away. And the park is closed for at least two weeks due to the flooding.

Which brings us to the meeting on the 7th. We are still up in the air on the meeting, but right now it's looking like Elm City might be the place we'll meet. I'll post updates as I hear more info from the ACOE. Hopefully it'll get warm and the flood waters will lower.

Mark and Rob have started clearing a couple of holes, but with the flooding the way it is, we may need to change the design around a bit. So in some respects we are back to the drawing board.

Just keep us updated -- Titan and I are both planning to come up there if possible on Thursday afternoon. I might bring one or two others with me as well -- if you go with an outside venue??

Three Thoughts to mention:

1) Take some pictures of the flooded areas sometime soon or flag the limits of flood-waters -- SO we remember the issues later.

2) Titan and I would still like the idea :!: of meeting at a Park -- just pick Robin Hood or another location. In our opinion, this would be more inviting to any Newer Players that want to come and see what all the Hub-Bub is about....Just a suggestion -- 8-)

3) Mark and Derek need to organize some either (a) Fund-raisers or (b) Disc Golf Clinic sessions this Summer -- Maybe just some baskets up by the picnic table area(s) for now....I can bring up a couple portables if needed...Plus some cones, practice discs, whatever....

PS -- I know that Mike Ladroga, Rob Breckenridge, myself (and possibly Titan as well ??) will certainly come and help out with any Events Planned (if it's at all possible) -- But YOU GUYS need to do the planning and set a schedule -- Suggest either late July or any time in August ?? That's what WE DO....Bring it ON :) 8-)

C U Next week -- Discin' on DOWN -- THX, John Britton (a.k.a. the Disc Doctor)
-- 27 years of Disc Golfin' -- Still FLINGin' and Cha_CHINGin' ...

Jon,

These are all great ideas:

1. I'm afraid due to work, and family obligations I won't be able to get out to Otter Brook to take pictures. If someone can do it great, but unfortunately I won't have an opportunity.

2. I will see if the ACOE will allow us to post a sign at OB to tell folks to go to Robinhood. I'll also try and track down the signs I put out and change them to say Robinhood.

3. These are great ideas. That's one of the main reasons to hold the meeting on the 7th, we need the help. I can't speak for Mark, but my summer is being sucked up out from under me. I'll look at my calendar and see when it might make sense to hold a fundraiser.

I really appreciate the input. This flooding and poison Ivy discovery has been a bit of a hit in the gut. Seems like we take 1 step forward and 2 steps back.

Once the park reopens and ACOE gets back to me on a time frame when the hard core cutting can start we'll get back on track.

Frustrated,
Derek

What's happening with the get-together on Thursday this week?? My summer is being "Sucked Away" from under me, as well.....
Can't wait to see my 3 children SOON -- It's been almost 10 months since I have seen them last time around...MUCH too long a time.....Two Boys = 8 & 12; 1 Daughter = 8 Also....

Have the date pencilled in -- but don't know where and when...PLS. advise...THANX, JB

Otter Brook is still closed to the public due to the flooding. Water came up over the restrooms, and over the main bridge down by hole 1. I'm hoping to be able to go over this afternoon and take a look. I spoke with Jim, and he said that the water in higher areas closer to the first bridge as you walk in, have dropped. It's obviously wet and he said 'pretty squishy' but those areas aren't under water anymore. He also said the gates will be closed for at least the next 3 weeks due to the damage so we will need to park in the top parking lot and walk in.

I'm still down for getting together, but I wanted to check to see what people want to do? There seems to be a more rain coming weds. and possibly thursday.

Are people up for doing a CTP in the muck (either at Otter Brook OR Robinhood) or should we meet at Elm City? Please let me know people's thoughts as I will need to put a sign up at Otter brook telling people where to go if we decide to meet somewhere else.

Sounds like from the emails I've been getting it makes the most sense to postpone until Otter Brook reopens. Let's shoot for the 20th @6pm. From the sounds of what the ACOE said OB will be closed for a while.

This thursday (june 14th) at 4pm some of us are heading over to Otter brook to check out the damage and re-examine the design a bit. All are welcome to come if you can. I spoke with a Dad in my sons preschool and he said the water was still 12 feet above normal and some area's are really torn up. We'll be going over with a open mind, and a new set of eyes since the flooding.

Sorry guys, work is getting in the way and I can't make it thursday. Hopefully Rob and Mark can still go over to take a look.

The rec area was completely flooded. Even if we put holes on the rec side embankment, there would be no way for people to get there or get back out. Maybe to the right side of the road... not really sure what to do till I can get some time to get over there and look again.

Quick update on Otter Brook. We spoke with the ACOE and they are still buried with the clean up from the flooding. Their focus right now is to do repairs on Surry Dam, and Otter brook so the general public can use the facilities. They haven't even started working on Surry Mountain yet, so it may be a 4-6 more weeks before they can get back to focusing on the course. Mark and I are going to meet with them on Monday, but it looks like the short story is Otter Brook is on hold for the foreseeable future.
