Stolen Basket at Coggshall

Post by Jeff Cooper »

Old hole 6's basket was stolen Sunday. Jim from the parks dept said around 2pm he was walking up at Coggshall and saw that the basket was gone. The theives left the sleeve but took the basket.

The thing is that this basket is on a hole we don't use and of all the baskets that could have been stolen its this one. Hole 1 would be a lot easier and hole 10 is the next closest to a road but they took a basket in the middle of the course. My bet is its a local player that knew that hole is not used anymore(so who would miss it.. right? ) and its in someones back yard or gonna be sold. The worst part is and Im hopeing this is not true but one of us could have even played with this person. I dont know this as fact but its possible.

Any help in recovering this would be great.

I was out there around noon yesterday and didn't see the missing basket. I figured it was finally being moved to a new spot.
Like you said, there is no chance that someone would randomly take the only basket that isn't part of the course.

After our last basket was stolen we installed hitch pin locks. Its not going to entirely prevent theft, but at least they have to take the whole dang thing, concrete and all in order to steal it. Ours was also hole 6, and also a hole that has two baskets where it was in less use than others. Major bummer. I searched craigslist and ebay for months after it was stolen.....
