Get something super sharp and shave off the edge on bottom of rim
most people don't realize that the little extra sharp lip from manufacturing actually makes the disc more stable than it should be. it literally takes months of throwing the disc for the lip to be worn away.
I'm sure there are other ways to help break in your disc but that is the most obvious an easy way to do it right out of the box.

you should be left with a string that is about a foot and a half long and about 5 to 10 micrometers thick

I use carpet to smooth that off. The heat and friction melts it off and makes for a really smooth radius.

Do what Dylan and Isaac said.
I always take a new disc and flick it off tree's during a round I am playing. After it gently smashes off enough tree's, it usually is breaking in to where I need them.
Just little pop flick's from 5-10 feet away while walking to your next shot ought to do.

I would think taking something really sharp to a disc to modify it would be considered illegal??
Thoughts...

The flashing on the bottom and sometimes nose/leading edge of a disc can be removed legally, as it is not technically part of the approved mold.

Re: Fastest Ways to Break in New Discs?
Definantly not modifying, the manufacturer uses a tool to remove most of it but purposely leaves some there because if they adjusted the tool to remove it all at once they would be taking a chance at damaging there own product, which is a nightmare for quality control.
If you think about this technically, they are actually selling you a "modified" disc because the extra plastic on the bottom or edge of rim changes the true flight characteristics of the mold design.

Re: Fastest Ways to Break in New Discs?
The pdga rule on disc alterations arguably does not allow Isaac's sharp object method, but the result is basically the same whether you remove the flashing by cutting (not explicitly allowed by the rules) or sanding (explicitly allowed). Just wanted to point out that, when it comes to breaking in discs there are rules, even if vague and illogical...
8.02.01.
C. Players may not make post- production modification of discs which alter their original flight characteristics. This rule does not forbid the inevitable wear and tear from usage during play or the moderate sanding of discs to smooth molding imperfections or scrape marks. Discs excessively sanded or painted with a material of detectable thickness are illegal...

Re: Fastest Ways to Break in New Discs?
I was mostly just pointing out that the rule is vague in some ways (how much sanding is ok?) and yet at the same time overly specific (sanding ok but scraping/ trimming not ok?).
Ah rules.

Re: Fastest Ways to Break in New Discs?
I've asked this question specifically to the pdga before. You can legally remove flashing any way you want. Sanding, razor, chainsaw... as long as only the flash is removed.

Re: Fastest Ways to Break in New Discs?
put them in a pillow case (one disc per pillow case, to protect the disc and the dryer), tie it closed then put it in a clothes dryer on the lowest setting for 5 minutes. combination of the heat and the wear will beat the discs up perfectly. test them out and repeat until you are happy.

Re: Fastest Ways to Break in New Discs?
Iv always believed that if everyone likes you that your not doing something right.
I think everyone should always express there true feelings and opinion's.
Unless your an ass kisser. Then I would suggest jumping on everyones bandwagon kissing ass where it smells best.

Re: Fastest Ways to Break in New Discs?
I like to believe you should always "assume best intentions", It leads to less uneasiness.
I often will tell my students that I am not there to be liked, and if they don't like me, I am doing something right.
New discs are cool, break them in slow by playing multiple rounds. Throw one disc rounds, that will get her started right.

I most certainly do treat people this way initially...most people.
If ones behavior naturally exudes snideness, I treat those people differently at times and I wouldn't have it any other way.
