Lowa Triolet GTX Lo

Post by Greenleaf Garrison »

So I know my form is horrible, but blowing through shoes every 6 months just doesnt seem right to me. So I am going to try these out. They are a mountaineering/Technical Climbing boot in a low top. They arrive in the mail today and I will post a review once I have the data to support it.

Anyone ever worn boots from this company? All of the reviews I found online of there other footwear are pretty good.

Where specifically on the shoe are you blowing it out?

yup those are the ones. I am blowing out the inside heel on every shoe. I had the Patagonia Gortex drifters and they did the same thing, never mind the vibram sole just peeled off of them in just a few weeks, probably a defective product. Merrell- Moab & Chameleon all do the same heel thing.

Not sure ANYTHING is gonna hold up if you're peeling the sole off the shoe.

Is it your plant foot? I'm thinking you're putting a ton of twisting force on the shoe. Pretty much all shoes are designed to be walked/run/hiked on in a somewhat straight line. Time for Vibram to design a disc golf-specific shoe that can hold up to the unique wear we subject them to.

I'm sure the tee pad surface is partly to blame(the new pavers at J-Park have forced me to change how I rotate).

EDIT: I know KEEN makes a disc golf specific shoe, the Milo. Not sure if anyone from NEFAland has tried these.

Yeah the sole coming off was just on the Patagonia Drifters. The knobs that attached to the side of the shoe seperated from the shoe and a crack went straight across the ball of the foot, completely through the rubber. I'm sure it was just defective and they did replace them at EMS, but I went back to Merrells.

From what I read the Milo and Milo II's were not good golfing shoes. Their new shoe is the Delaveaga and it has not had good reviews either overall.

I think my heel may be small so it is lifting a lot in the heel of the shoe which causes the material to breakdown. I always untie my shoes and take them off without just stepping on the heel and kicking them off because I think that is what did it on some of my pairs.

Vibram, for sure, needs to develop a disc golf specific shoe that can handle all of the rotation. There was a skate shoe back in the day called the Airwalk NTS. They had this sick rubber outsole that covered the entire top of the shoe. I would post a pic, but I still havent figured out how to do that :-) They would work great as a golf shoe with different tread on the bottom.

Yeah and the rubber covered the entire top of the toe all the way back to mid foot. they were sick! the rubber was glued and sewn on. Like Mr. T and She-ra had a shoe together.

Inital Review of the Lowa Triolet GTX Lo

exceptional craftsmanship and stiching. I had read that they ran small so I ordered a half size larger than my normal shoe size, correct decision. Sitting down and lacing up, shoes are very comforatable. Standing and walking shoes are comforatable, but these ARE boots. Extremely rigid sole, lots of support. The treads get small to very small at the tip of the toe, this is for footing on rocks when bouldering to get to a route, I think this will aid in rotation on the pad, the larger tread on the rest of the soul will provide substantial grip on leaves and dirt I would imagine. The shoe is very rigid, we will see how they affect the calf and thigh muscles after a full round in them.

So far so good.

I had a pair of "approach" shoes by evolv that looked very similar to those Lowa's. at first they were like wearing boots, very dependable. then they just fell apart, starting at the heel (actually come to think of it, at the toe too even though it looked all 'reinforced'). it all boils down to that glue since they aren't attached AROUND the heel.

i've decided to just have multiple pairs- one pair of gore-tex boots for wet rounds, one low top pair for casual rounds, and then you can't go wrong with a big ol' pair of LLBean boots, which you can just keep returning every year or so when they fall apart. they're remarkable with their returns. just tell 'em you're disappointed with the way they fell apart and they replace them with the latest comparable model. they also give you shipping labels.

i'm testing soles for Vibram right now and have the current test soles attached to a pair of Salewa 6" Gore-tex Mountain Trainer shoes. The shoes feature a European cut and are overbuilt.
Figured I'd put it out there....

Ok. So after 6mos my review of this shoe has changed somewhat. First let me say that they are still perfectly intact. No peeling, no heel blowout. However, after 6mos of wear, the toe box has still not broken in. So wearing these for long periods, like on a tournament day cause cramping in the feet. A slow winter round in the snow, they do just fine. I feel that I may go back to merrell or try these new shoes for longer more active rounds.

You may have wide feet. I'm a smaller to normal sized dude and finally broke down and got my feet properly sized, turns out I am a 10 wide. No more foot pain or problems.

i'd agree with this- i've found that "break-in" with shoes is not always a necessary evil. my keens just plain FIT me from day 1. whereas my merrells are constantly bugging me (but they're goretex so i can't scrap em). keens have a good toe box for sure.

Ya sounds like you have a wide foot. I have the same thing. I found a great shoe made by Clarks. They only make one hiking shoe but its really well made and comfortable. Also all their shoes come with wide shoe versions. Ive had it 8months or so and no problems so far. A little on the pricey side though.

I don't have wide feet, but I swear by super feet inserts for any shoe/boot I wear. They don't give them away (~$40), but they are very durable, and will make the shoe feel bigger by supporting the foot well within the shoe or boot. Might be worth a try if the current boot isn't cutting it. Plus, they can just be put into the next shoe if you choose to cut your losses on the current shoe.

Good luck!

Yeah, what Ira said.
Superfeet footbeds go into 90% of the ski boots I sell and ALL of the shoes I wear.

They even have one with merino wool tops on them which are super awesome in the winter.

Thanks for all the input guys! I will look into the superfeet souls. I do use aftermarket insert, but just the nice ones you can get at sponrts authority. The search continues
