Manchester Community College: MCC students needed

Post by Jon Dunlap »

We have only been approved to purchase 3 baskets right now, and we are still seeking the green light from facilities regarding land usage, however, many people in multiple departments are trying to make this happen. Based on limited funding, the plan is to buy 3 baskets a year for the next 3-6 years, depending on how well the course is received buy the community at MCC. Year one (this fall semester) we install 3 baskets (lightning db-5s) with multiple tee locations to create 6-9 holes.

In order to make this happen, we will need to develop a student base to create an active disc golf club on campus. So far, the only involvement has been from faculty and various administrators throughout the college.

If you are a current student at MCC, or you know a current student at MCC who plays disc golf, please contact me through PM with contact information, including banner id # (if you know it). If you are a graduate of MCC and want to see this happen, please contact me as well.

While there is still work to be done to get the official green light, this is a very real possibility. I will post as necessary with updates.

+1. We could use another course in the area. It's very possible with the land there to have a course that is both noob and advanced friendly.

Thanks for the offers. While this project promises to move slowly, it is a real possibility. The Fitness Director at the college is in talks with the town regarding their part of the property, and another party is investigating the needed funding. I will post any and all updates, and would definitely love to walk the property with folks who are interested in checking things out. I teach there tuesday and thursday evenings, so I am on campus regularly, though now that wick is open, I have been getting in short rounds there before class.

Used to do my field practice there when I lived in Manchester. Always thought they could easily fit 9, maybe more.

Have the been any updates about getting baskets put in at MCC since the last post? I live close and would be happy to donate some time. It'd be nice to have another local course to play.

Thanks Mike! Just one more step to developing a disc golf culture on campus. The permanent course on campus is on hold for now, as one of the Deans does not believe that the idea supports the newly developed mission of mcc. I will set up a safari course around the bandshell for the class. He will be invited to the class with the hopes of swaying him.

Matt,

Does that mean we will be seeing you at The Wick? Just across town from MCC.

Oops... wrong MCC. There is one in Manchester, NH as well.

I do, however, look forward to the next time our paths cross Mr. Ditter.

when dealing with greenfield CC in MA..same issue arose a "student based club" had to be formed

I get it but I don't agree with it..hard to create a club w/o a course kinda
