Greetings All,
I want to provide my second update on my eagle project, the disc golf course to be installed at the North Smithfield High school. My fundraising efforts are still progressing as I had originally planned as many of our local businesses have supported my project. The nine baskets from Rock Hill have come in, and I have put one together, it looks really neat. I plan on having my troop help me assemble the others on Saturday May 14, for it would be nice to have them see how these baskets are put together so when other courses go up, they can help. I have come up with a course design and I am going to show the physical education staff what it will looks like.
Next Steps:
I plan on going in front of the town council on May 16th to ask if they would like to donate some money towards my project. I also plan on having some signs produced for the tees on my course. Then on June 10th I start constructing. If you would like to help out on the project please contact me at (401) 762-0903.
DID YOU KNOW?
The Frisbee started with the Frisbee Pie Company. In 1915, Employees of the Frisbee Pie Company started playing throw and catch with pie pans in the parking lot. The idea spread from there to others around the area. Yale is recognized with starting the Frisbee craze, but Princeton University was also a major player. The game of playing Frisbee became very popular at collages and universities. When the demand for flying discs became great, companies like Wham-o started making their own Frisbees. Although there is a lot of proof that Frisbee was a word commonly associated with the playing of flying discs, Wham-o trademarked the name. They began producing their own Frisbees and became the major Frisbee supplier in the country. Many others competed with Wham-o, some successful, some not, and the Frisbee market advanced quickly to where it is today.

There will be a workday on Saturday the 11th of June. Please show your support for this project and show up at No. Smithfield H.S. Details of the time will follow. If you are coming, and have a practice basket that is portable, it would be fun to play the course after the work is done. Since the cement will not be dry, we could set up the temps. I have one that I will bring. Any others? We need eight more.
