WARRIOR DASH

Post by Jim Bobka »

This is an obstacle course race; I've just heard about it recently and it is being held for the first time in Barre, MA on June 29 of this year.

Basically, it's 3.35 miles through designated farm land, and it includes several obstacles to maneuver, including rope climb, trench crawls, mudpit crawls, water obstacles, etc. , anything that is crazy enough to do they come up with it. It is a test of stamina, both mental and physical.

It is also a benefit for St. Jude's hospital; most of the $$ goes there.

There are 500 runners going off every 1/2 hour, starting from 8:30 AM until 4:00 PM on said day. This event is filling up FAST. Every start time between 9:00 and 2:30 is already full!

Cost is $65 per person; there is a liability waiver you must fill out and bring with you to race, and it's $10 to park. Carpooling is a good idea. This is also a NON-refundable payment. This event CAN be cancelled, due to certain dangerous circumstances. go to their site for all information.

Unfortunately (for discgolfers, anyway), no outside beverages/food is allowed. They do have food/drink on site for purchase.

Anyone over the age of 14 can attend.

During event, bands will be playing, food/drink is available. All spectators are free.

If anyone is interested, go to warriordash.com for info. --jimbob

I did the one in Amesbury a couple years ago. It's a lot of fun, but tough running. At the start/finish they had a big field set up with a festival atmosphere. There was a band playing and lots of food and drink tents.

The run itself is pretty brutal. The entire course was very wet, sloppy mud. There was no good footing whatsoever.

Turning in your timer chip at the end gets you free beer though!

Yes sir. I'm trying to get my son to do it, but he needs more training than video games can give him.

I thought you might look into it, Rob.

The early start time would be best if you were concerned about footing (dryer course), but I'm thinking about 3:00. Late afternoon could bring lightning/thunderstorms, if it's high humidity. They would shut it down if lightning arrives.

Sounds like a good time. I'm assuming that my bronchitis will be gone by then. Plus, it is a great cause.

Isn't that what you say to yourself every morning as you fall out of bed?

Wow, Brad Harris was right on; the beginning was through the forest, and some of the muddy trails were over ankle deep, some areas up to the shins! Tough footing for sure.

Rob took off and soon was out of sight; I held back with my son who lost his sneaker twice in the mud!

Obstacles were real fun, and it was much easier running through the fields than the woods for sure.

Glad I prepped ahead of time, jogging for a couple weeks in the humidity helped out greatly. The day turned out to be actually one of the best summer days in a while, no thunderstorms or showers. Nice breeze as well helped to stifle the 'farming' smells that were quite prevalent early on.....

Good times, we all survived and are now still washing clothes......
