Best Courses in Maine? Bangor Road Trip July 4th Weekend

Post by Dylan Courtney »

What are the best courses in Maine relatively close to 95? I've checked out DGCR but I thought I'd ask NEFA-land because there seems to be a ton of highly reviewed courses. Courses with (or nearby) camping are a plus but not mandatory.

Sean E and I are heading up to Bangor for the Phish show on Wed July 3rd and making our way back to Boston over the following 4 days. If anyone has a floor or backyard for us to stay at in Bangor that night please PM me. We are good cooks and gracious guests. Also – we are 28 year old young professionals, not hippie band tour wookies (not that there’s anything wrong with them).

Thanks in advance. Looking forward to disc golfing in Maine!

Great places- woodland valley, quarry run, dargan, and burnsboro. Probably in that order for me. Woodland and quarry are tied for my maine faves!

Woodland Valley and Gorham (bennett disc farm) would be a great day. The courses arent too far apart and both offer two amazing layouts as well as onsite proshops

It is pretty far off of 95 but Troll Valley is certainly worth it. Also further west but totally worth it is Cranberry Valley. You could then hit Dragan and Sabattus and you will have played the best of the best up there.

Baxter Brewing of Lewiston has some of best stuff going and its right down the road from Dragan.

Going to throw a second nod to Troll Valley out in Farmington.

Disc Golf
Woodland Valley in Limerick, ME
Sabattus Disc Golf in Sabattus, ME
Troll Valley in Farmington, MA (not near 95, but fun!)
Sugarloaf Disc Golf in Carabbasett Valley, ME (slated for June completion)

Non-Disc Golf
Becky's Diner in Portland, ME
Harmon's Hamburgers in Falmouth, ME
Reggae Sunday on Peak's Island in Portland, ME (morning til 5:00p, then head over to Port Hole in downtown for late night)

I went to UMaine Orono, and still have some solid family up there. I'll put out a feeler and see if I can help with the crash space. Enjoy your trip.

Whoa! That's a bit out of the way, but will be worth a look if it's a full 18! How many holes will they have upon opening?

The received approval for 5 holes to "hold locals over" until the spring. We have our final site visit coming up at the beginning of June, so I'm honestly not sure when the course will be done.

The final two holes of the 5 holes are #17 and #18, with the first three holes just filler holes to make a loop.

When the final 18 is complete, it's gonna be funnnn!

It's a fun course. Pretty technical actually. It's located at a campground so maybe worth a visit :)

Thank you for the suggestions! We are still looking for a place to stay in Bangor on July 3rd if anyone can help out (floor space, back yard, etc). Also – suggestions for camping in the Augusta area on the 5th and 6th would be much appreciated! PM if you’re shy.

We have a tentative list: DR, Troll, Porcupine, Quarry, CR Farm, Akers, Sabattus, Dragan.
We’ve decided to do the Woodland, BAP, Pleasant Hill loop on another trip.

Your help is much appreciated!

There wasn't enough time to fit in all the great courses you guys have up there. We ended up playing DR DG, Troll Valley, CR Farm, Porcupine Ridge, Burnsburo, and Aker's. Big thanks to Matt Enman, the Saywards, and Randy McD for having us!! Glow/LED golf at night was incredible. No ticks, poison ivy, or lost discs to report like we’re used to in Mass. The mosquitos up there love the taste of 100% DEET though. The flies are no joke either. Wowzers. All and all it was an incredible trip. Can’t wait to try out the rest of the gems up there. Thanks Maine!
