CT/RI Region
Considering that this region has what appears to be the second most members, MA smokes everyone, why do we have so few sanctioned events? It would be great to see places like Park City, FU and even The Wave throw a NEFA sanctioned tournament. Maybe courses like Cranbury could get a special waiver to have multiple sanctioned events in a season.

Re: CT/RI Region
Often times the only thing holding back a region or a course from a PDGA or NEFA sanctioned event is a TD that is willing to devote volunteer time to accomplish such things.
On that note, thanks to all the TD's out there!

Great point Chris. I have a lot of respect for TD's. They sacrifice a ton to throw these awesome tournaments. Maybe time to light a fire and get involved!

Not as tough as you may think. Start with and Ace Race if you wanna start in the shallow end of the pool.Sean Meyer wrote:Maybe time to light a fire and get involved!
Regardless, just ask around for some help and I'm sure there's some players willing to step up and assist.

Thanks Jeff. I've heard the term Ace Race but not sure what it is. Can you elaborate?

Discraft debuts a new disc every year and holds a global event for it.
Participants recieve 2 of the prototype discs(and other schwag) which they must use during the tournament.
The TD moves all the tees into aceable range and the person with the most aces wins a grand prize of 8 discs, a bag and a towel.
So basically everyone runs at the basket and you either score and ace(A) or a metal hit(M) on the card. Then the group moves to the next hole and repeats. Metal hits are used for tiebreakers.
Discraft provides the TD a bunch of flags to mark the Ace Tees and a banner too.
No worries about submitting scores, paying out different divisions, rules issues, etc. which is a plus for the rookie TD.
You have August, September and October to pick a date to run it.
More details are at: http://discgolfacerace.com/
Feel free to hit me up if you have any TD questions.

Thanks a lot Jeff! I checked out the web site and it sounds like a really fun time! Going to talk to some people and maybe give it go. One question though, how do you collect the entry fees?

You could setup a Paypal account or go cash/money order to your home address. The majority of players will be relatively local so you may find yourself collecting at league nights and other local events. You may just have to make yourself available by posting up date/time/courses

I really want to hit up an ace race. Is this looking like something that will happen in CT this year?

Hey Zoro, was the "Beast" the last NEFA Qualifier for CT/RI? If So, how are you going to break down the AM invites for Championship?

I think you've still got Zoro's own tournament...The GRWO at Panthorn, which would be a qualifier since it's listed as a NEFA tourney.

Re: CT/RI Region
Panthorn is the last nefa regional event for the year. Registration should be up by Monday.
As far as the issue of more tournaments in CT. I agree. I'd love to have more. This year alone we've added 3 new NEFA events (cranbury ice bowl, BUC tournament and Page Parks feed the beast). It looks like Adam didn't have time to run a Nefa Bridgeport tournament, but I know a PDGA one is in the works.
The post NEFA season looks great! The cranbury classic, Sherwood island, ace race at Bridgeportand maybe a Pdga event, wickender, widows tournament and New Years at panthorn.
CT has a ton of potential. It has the courses:
Cross farms
West Thompson
Panthorn
Wick
Cranbury
Bridgeport
Waveny
Wick, WT and Cran are good enough to hold two big tournaments a year. This doesn't mean it has to stop there. Other people can step up and hold a tournament a month. While we are only allowed one NEFA event per course, we can have unlimited PDGA and unsactioned events. The tournament directors put a lot of effort into running events, and thankfully most have some huge help from the course locals to pull it all off.
We have the courses....we just need more tournament directors. As CTdisc golf grows they will emerge. Hopefully one day we will have 18+ events like MA does.
