I don't know (no way to really prove - all the participants aren't the exact same as last year) if the people are "scoring well on it" or not, but IF you're talking about 2013's course vs. 2012's course (correct me if I'm wrong):
1 A few small trees taken out this year (making the approach easier)
2 Same?
3 Basket moved ~30' to the right and a little closer
4 Same?
5 Opened up a rhbh hyzer route (that not too many people take...but still)
6 Same?
7 Same?
8 Moved basket to water's edge (much shorter and more 'birdieable')
9 Same?
10 Took out a couple trees at the corner
11 Same?
12 WAY, WAY easier!
13 Same?
14 Much harder
15 Same?
16 Easier for some considering there's virtually no OB, but the big-guns may find it less deuceable
17 Made it longer but WAY less of a troublesome angle
18 Took out numerous small trees in the fairway making the approach shot / stance / line easier
I say the course plays a little easier (than last year). And my personal scores (albeit, a rather small n-value) show such (considering I've not really improved or worsened over the last year).
It'll be interesting what the stats show (in the end).
And lower scores don't necessarily mean 'worse' (as the course got worse, etc.); actually, IMO the changes they made over the last year were good ones.

A three-way tie for first place in Open Women, and a four-way tie for first place in Open Men, with swarms of others golfers nipping at their heels heading into the weekend. Could the PDGA NT Series closer possibly get any more exciting than this?!?
Look forward to more live coverage and live scoring tomorrow!!!

Not so fast. Karl might be on to something. 3,8,12,16,18 all configured to be easier (16 more fair). 14 harder. The loss of 12 and 16 to property rights was a tragedy (pardon my hyperbole), but why make a hole like #18 easier? The allure of the Vibram Open was the majesty of the single challenging course...no need for multiple courses or layouts, the course is the test, right?
It's not worse this year, just easier.
EDIT: and what about hole 11? With the large amount of 3's on that hole I have to guess it's not tucked into the woods anymore, so add that to the easier list.

The better learning experience is to stick around and battle through the implosion without embarrassing yourself or ruining other people's time. I don't think there's anything noble about quitting a tournament for anything but injury or emergency.

Re: Uh, Vibram Open 2013?
Since we're sort of on the topic, I think kudos are in order for Mike Valerio. I'm assuming he missed his tee time Thursday because he wasn't aware that he'd made it into the tournament from the wait list. But he took advantage of the par+4 penalties (which is not a DNF) and still played yesterday and today, shooting a solid 65 today when he had zero chance of making the cut.
Hope the scoring staff does the right thing and changes that 999 on Thursday to the 131 he should be credited with. He may have started late, but he finished the tournament.

i agree 10 fold at the current time i made a call on the spot...my pulling out had nothing to do with score or the event but my mental state...reflecting back on the events that took place should have i stayed 100% but if the round was to proceed there would prob be another post about how ailes acted......non the less this is not the place to be talking about this and my retort to trent was do to the snide comment

Re: Uh, Vibram Open 2013?
Nope. As directed to me the PDGA Tour Manager & Events Director, he must receive a 999 for that round. He was officially not part of the tournament competition BUT was encouraged to play the 2nd & 3rd rounds with his group and receive round ratings. This takes nothing away from Mike, who as you pointed out shot a stellar round, unofficially rated 975 and well above his player of 927.

Looking back, you should have done what you wanted.
You paid the entry fee, its your choice as to how much you want to get out of it. This isn't a team sport. That would be different. This isn't the Olympics where you have a national affiliation and are then letting your country down. And please don't let maines number one anal retentive social misfit attempt to change your mind. He's the same person that would probably start stroking you for any resulting anger after he convinced you to finish the round(s).
Such a joke. So high. So mighty.
Fun sponge.
Noble? Good grief. The civil war era called & they'd like their lame ass vernacular back.

Tyler didn't become a powerhouse until a few weeks ago. In the past, he had been a threat, but the ups and downs were quite extreme from day to day, week to week. Now he's on a killing spree and his average bad round has become something of a thousand rated nature.
The 18 year old has the focus of a man of 50 and the kind of restraint you can only read about.
That said, I wouldn't be surprised if he's scooped up by a major manufacturer before today is through.

1119 on the unofficial ratings! Ridiculous.
Guess Dave's gonna have to redesign a hole or two to make the course harder. 45's aren't supposed to happen on the golds.
