basket height
is there an official rule on how high/low a basket can be placed?
I bring this up because talks of a "ground" basket have been brought up..it sounds cool..I can't google search a picture for some reason
basically the basket is flush with the ground
and pics or info would be cool

Trophy lakes near charleston SC had one the last time I was there. Pretty sure they hold a yearly pdga a tier too.

The Hippodrome (home of killer B) also has one. Looks a little quirky to me

Re: basket height
Todd posted the manufacturing spec above. However, there's an installation guideline in the course design standards that goes as follows:
Manufacturers are required to produce targets so the height of the basket rim above the playing surface will be 82 cm +/- 6 cm. However, course developers may install some targets where the height falls outside the 76-88 cm manufacturing range. The PDGA Course Committee suggests that no more than 6 targets out of 18 be installed outside the manufactured height range with just 2 or 3 being preferred. Targets suspended from above can be fun for recreational play but there should be a way to secure it from swinging freely during sanctioned play.

Re: basket height
As much fun as I think trying to get a roller ace would be sunken baskets are not practical around here. We get snow. How are you going to hole out when the chains are under 2 ft of white stuff? I see how it can work down south but up here we have a real winter.

Flyboy in Georgia is the other one I've played besides Trophy Lakes and Hippodrome. I think there might be one other in South Carolina.

Re: basket height
That's the gheyest thing I've ever seen in disc golf.
Having played for a few years now, I've seen some ghey basket placements.
Someday this game will be a sport and I can't wait till it is.

Re: basket height
About as silly as putting a little white ball into a hole? If only we got paid as well for rolling a disc into a ground basket.

Re: basket height
Im not a big fan but its kind of fun to play. Not really a roller hole though. Tight double mando surrounds the basket and water is all over the place. More about hitting a gap/landing zone 225 ish off the tee if I recall correctly

What? Why even have the chains? Adding the elevation is what makes putting difficult.

Ummmm no! It's about as silly as rolling the winning putt for the Masters past the windmill blades into the clowns mouth.

Re: basket height
The sport started with ground baskets in the early 70s. I suspect we would have them as the standard today (low cost, easy to install). But Steady Ed and others figured it would be too much of a problem in public parks maintaining holes in the ground (drainage, trash, tripping). So where you currently see the half dozen or so "holes in the ground" is on controlled access/private courses where they can be maintained properly.

Re: basket height
so how do the "haters" feel about "elevated" baskets?
or is there a camp that thinks all baskets should be 'set" at a certain height period?
I think with some rockisk obstacles surrounding a basket in the ground of sorts would be cool...regardless if that hole is roller ace potential it does at least interest me to try for a roller ace/approach/putt if needed/wanted
guess I would have to actually play it to really see if I like something like that...
I think non tourney players would have a blast always where as seasoned tourney ready players would try a few times and then say blah...and blame the hole always for not adjusting

Re: basket height
Is it sillier than the basket on the wall at the former CW course?? Or the basket set in the OB brook at Hyzer Creek?
I like running accross unusual basket heights/postions at courses every now and then, not that I think every course needs one. I think the buried basket thing could work succesfully in the right surroundings/terrain. Maybe on a hill with OB water nearby or on a small island green to prevent rolling at it.

Re: basket height

It was created and used for 2011 PDGA AM Worlds at Rochester, NY. It's still there today.
The bottom part of the basket are about 7 feet high.
I like it.
The CW's wall are even crazier and requires you to use the ladder to get there. See my video link of CW's wall somewhere in the forum.
