For Sale: Own a Piece of Disc Golf History
In 1977, disc golf was in its infancy. Pioneers, led by “Steady” Ed Headrick, had begun designing and installing the country’s first courses. Among these first courses was a course at Leonard Park in Mt. Kisco, New York, designed by the father of disc golf himself.
The first baskets at Mt. Kisco’s disc golf course stood for over 35 years, catching more than their fair share of discs, and seeing the sport through its humble beginnings to today’s era of rapid growth and expansion. These historic DGA Mach I Pole Holes were retired this fall. In keeping with their historic significance, one of these well-worn and much-loved baskets has been sent to the PDGA headquarters/Disc Golf Hall of Fame in Georgia for display. The rest are being made available for purchase.
Appropriately, proceeds raised from the sale of these original targets will go directly to the continued revitalization of disc golf’s beginnings at Mt. Kisco. If you are interested in owning a piece of disc golf history, this is your opportunity to pay tribute to the past while funding the future.
If you would like to purchase an original Mt. Kisco basket for $200, please contact Bill Newman at Billnewman16@gmail.com. Again, proceeds will go to the improvement of the course at Mt. Kisco, preserving Steady Ed’s vision of disc golf in Westchester County and beyond.
