A few announcements from North Attleboro Disc Golf…

World War I Park’s first work days!!!
Saturday May 3rd 8-5
Saturday May 10th 8-5

We are asking volunteers to sign-up for half or full days in advance so we can plan the day. You may email or text me (774)249-9912.
Half days are either mornings 8am – 12pm or afternoons 1pm – 5pm.

These two days we’ll be working on clearing fairways and paths between holes, setting up temporary targets, and once that work is done, grading tee pad areas. We will need cutting tools. Chain saws (with experienced operators), brush cutters, loppers, pole saws. We would like to have teams of people – Chainsaw operator and a few people supporting each chainsaw to move brush and logs. It would be good to have a 2-3 people with pick, shovel and rake available to rough out the tee areas.

We will meet in the lower parking lot near Petty Field.

Things you can bring:

Work Gloves
Chainsaws
Pole saws
Hand saws
Loppers
Shovels
Picks
Rakes

We will go over the details of what should and should not be cleared on each hole before we begin. A few notes:

- Please cut everything LOW TO THE GROUND. I know it’s a little more difficult but its better than having to cut twice or having someone trip and get impaled.

- We will be looking to border walkways between holes using the thinner trees we cut.

- Selected holes may use logs to mark a route from tee to green and also prevent hillside erosion.

- Cut material wants to be dragged well off the fairways and left in a natural deadfall state. We are not looking to create large deadfall piles. No burning allowed.

- We may collect some cuttings into road accessible areas for later chipping – use around green and walkways.

- We will try to create level areas for tees, all natural for now.

We will be working on holes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 17 & 18. Once complete this will make a nice 9 hole loop. We plan on installing bucket targets and having these holes "playable" as soon as our progress allows it.

So it’s time to talk fundraising. The NADG club has been rewarded a $1500 NEFA grant to help towards the course. However, we still need to raise a lot more money to see this course to fruition. We will do this through a basket sponsorship program. Here are the details:

Basket Sponsorship:

Cost: $400 per hole
What is included: 1 basket, extra sleeve, sign recognition of sponsor(s).
Do I get anything for Sponsorship?: Sponsors name(s) will be included on signage for that hole, either a
separate sign or inclusion on the Hole info sign.
What baskets are being considered: Always a controversial decision, but as of now we plan to install Disccraft Chainstars.
How many people can co-sponsor: Up to four (4) people can pool funds for each basket.
Who do I pay?: Payment of the entire amount can be made by cash or check (made out to Peter Violet).
Can I choose a hole?: After all holes are complete, sponsors may choose what hole they would like to
sponsor on a first come (payment received), first choice basis.
When do you need payment?: We will start accepting payments at anytime. Remember, first to pay
will receive first choice of hole. Payments can also be mailed to 123 Paine Rd North Attleboro, MA 02760

I have put up the first $400 sponsorship. Who’s next?

Work days:
Saturday May 3rd 8-5
Saturday May 10th 8-5

please let us know if you are coming so we may plan.
You may email or text me (774)249-9912.
Half days are either mornings 8am – 12pm or afternoons 1pm – 5pm. Obviously if you can come for only a few hrs that's good too.

**basket sponsorship: so far we have secured 4 basket sponsorships for $400 a piece (in addition to the $1500 nefa grant. I am told there are a few more on the way.

If you would like to sponsor with up to 4 people, you will be able to pick your hole to sponsor in the order it is received - when the time comes. If you are interested in going in on a basket with others - let me know - maybe I can put you in touch with others. Please send checks to Pete Violet at 123 Paine Rd north attleboro, ma 02760

Can't wait for next week!!!

Great work was done today on the course! We got holes 1-4 & 6 95% cut and hole 5 roughed in, all bucket baskets put up, and main access paths cleared. We had a 15-man crew with myself, Jay, Drew, Bob, Papa, Jon G, Lee, Nick, Justin, Chris S, John R, Rich, Thomas, Mike R, and Sean. Thanks for everyone's help! If we get another good turnout next Saturday then we could have 9 playable holes (with bucket baskets). I have posted some pics on the WW1 Facebook page. I would post them here too but I am not sure how.

More work on the course coming up this Saturday. We'll be starting at 7 this week. Meet at the lower parking lot by Petti Field. We need more of the same as last week... chainsaws, loppers, pole saws, brush cutters, and most importantly, people. We got 5 holes completely cut last week so if we get a good turn out we could finish off the cutting this weekend. We have a goal of 9 cleared holes with baskets installed by the July 4th weekend. This course is going to be a gem. Let's make it happen.

9 of us worked the course today - jay, myself, T.M., Rich Gunther, papa, judge, Greg Spaulding, Chris Silva & David Chatterton. We now have 9 holes cut - not bad for 2 days work. Branches still needs to be cleared from most holes. We hope to order baskets soon and have them in by July 4th! See pics on the WW1 Facebook page.

Great news! 10 baskets have been ordered and received thanks to the NEFA grant and some initial basket sponsorships.

9 fairways have been cut out so far thanks to good showings by many of you on our first 2 workdays.

This weekend there will be 2 (half) workdays on Saturday and Sunday from 8 to 12. We still need to clear a lot of previously cut brush from the fairways. Once this is done we can start to put in baskets! Many hands make light work!

Let's get this course ready for baskets!! Send me a text if you think you can make it one of the days.

Lots of work done today! Thanks to David Chasse, John Flaherty, Greg Foster, Mark Goldstein, Sean McCabe, Mike Rogan and Pete Violet, we cleared the brush off holes 4, 5, 6 and 8.

I encourage people to get out and play the 9 holes!

Thus far we have had a total of 23 different workers to date and 10 financial contributors!

Another work day tomorrow 8 - 12!

Played all nine with Jay, Mox, and Devin...super fun! The lines are tight but rewarding. Now if Devin and I could have shaved a stroke off each hole then we'd be top dog.

Played the 9 twice after work. 32 and then 27. I wasn't driving very well so a lot of approach and putt saves. Also I lost a starfire on hole 1. I hope it turns up.

Thanks to Jay, Mox, Devin, and John Rogers the fairways were trimmed up with pole saws and temporary tee pads were put in on holes 1, 6, and 8.

Next saturday we are starting at 7am. We will be working on basket installations. We could really use some workers, wheelbarrows, shovels, and other digging tools.

Let us know if you can make it! 774-249-9912

25 different workers and 11 financial contributors have helped make this course happen so far.

Could you post directions/ how to get to hole 1 as it can be a bit confusing finding it from the parking lot.

To get to hole 1:

Park in the Petti Field parking lot. Walk 400ft up the road you just drove down to get to the parking lot. Take a right at the fork and follow the road another 250ft. Between sites 7 & 9 there is a path on the right. Follow this path down the hill. This path will intersect another path. Take a left and continue down the hill. At the intersection with the next trail, take another left. The path for the first tee is about 40ft ahead on the right (leading up hill). I'll post an updated course map on DGCR and FB later.

The course is pretty easy to follow, with only one semi-long walk. After hole 3, follow the foot path from the basket to the main trail. Take a left onto the main trail and walk for about 150 yards. The path for hole 4 is on the left.

Plenty of little things still need to get done. The course needs lots of 1ft tall underbrush cut and some debris still needs to me removed from the fairways. Hole 7 still needs a little pole saw work as well. We're also planning to install more temp tees this season.

Get out there, give it a try, and let us know what you think. The sound of a brand new Chainstar is soooooo nice.

Now time to finish off those big fancy tees at Dacey...

The North Attleboro Recreation Department has expressed some concerns about people parking along the main road in the park and using the utility road which is signed "DO NOT ENTER" to access the course. When visiting the park and course, please refrain from parking along the main road and DO NOT use the "DO NOT ENTER" road to access the course. This is a new course and we don't want to appear to be a source of issues, especially right off the bat. World War I Park is a multi-use park with many other visitors and several onsite staff people. Please be good ambassadors of the sport and be respectful of the park staff, other visitors, and the limited rules in place. Remember, this is a pilot course. If we want the course remain in place long term and possibly expand to a full 18-hole layout we need to show that disc golf is a sport the Recreation Department wants to continue to host, and good etiquette is a great place to start. If you have any questions about the course, please feel free to contact either Pete or myself. Thanks!
