Bodies needed for new course proposal: Sandwich, MA

Post by Greenleaf Garrison »

SAVE THE DATE: Monday June 23rd @ 6pm. Last public input meeting for the Sandwich Hollows recreational plan. Meeting will be at the Sandwich Hollows club house on June 23rd from 6-8 pm. 1 Round Hill Rd, East Sandwich, MA 02537. The more support for a disc golf course, the better the chance of it becoming a reality. The overall proposal is for a multi-use park & disc golf, which is a perfect fit. Show your support by attending this very important meeting.

Thank you to Drew, John, Ian, and David for heading up the course development group.

Please forward this message to anyone you think might possibly have an interest in this happening.

Last night's meeting went very well. A consulting firm hired by the Town of Sandwich presented 3 different master plan layouts for a combination of athletic fields, walking trails, a multi-use park and disc golf. To see proposed areas for a disc golf course on all 3 scenarios was highly encouraging. We set up a demo area outside the clubhouse prior to the meeting and had roughly 20 supporters at the meeting. We introduced ourselves as the Cape Cod Disc Golf Club and mentioned the work we've done at Burgess Park. We also supplied plenty of hand out materials about disc golf and the Cape Cod Disc Golf Club.

The next step in the process is the presentation of the 3 scenarios to the Sandwich Board of Selectmen...this will happen at one of their July meetings. I can confidently say at this point that with the ongoing support of the club and other local support, the possibility of establishing a new dg course at Sandwich Hollows is looking very good. Still much more work/research is needed, particularly with conservation issues (rare species habitat); however, we are on the right track.

Stay tuned! :D

UPDATE: All three recreational proposals for the Sandwich Hollows property will be going before the town board of Selectmen at one of their two September meetings...which one, we don't yet know. Once we find out, we'll spread the word like wildfire...stay tuned :!:
