Give Brinster a shot. I hear he is pretty good and the locals like him.

I dont think the name change has anything to do with it. It used to be a somewhat local event, now it is a cash cow for the touring players. Since the touring players come and play every year (and they should), the lure of seeing them play is not as great. Been there seen that.

Still the best event. Just my opinion on the lack of local hype. I bet all the touring pros are excited, but they don't post here.

I'm getting hype and bringing some hype from VT. Sending our course superintendent Jon Lange down to help with prep tomorrow through Thursday, I'll be down with Drew, our Pro Shop Manager on Wednesday. Looking forward to an amazing week!

Ever since the Borelli Blog ended and moved, so has the hype. :)

Keep an eye out for my Killer B Drone, Aaron Doyle. He works for me and is a 16 yr old kid making moves in his first year as a Pro. He is super-excited to be travelling to MH, and has been watching the old videos I lent him for the past 2 weeks. Good kid. Take care of him for me, NEFA!
Long live the B!

So, I don't know all the rules completely therefore I have a question. On Wysocki's approach to the green on 18, if his disc landed on the green and then rolled OB, I thought you'd take the next shot from where it rolled OB. I guess it's an all or nothing for that putting green?

Specific rules for that green, anything over or in/out that green goes to drop zone. In a normal OB situation without special rules, you are correct.

Actually, Ricky played his fourth shot (after going OB on his second shot) from the wrong spot.
Since his disc never flew over the green, only on to the green then rolled out, he SHOULD have played from the place where the disc was last in bounds.
I watched how Ricky played that 18th hole and he definitely played it wrong.
That poor kid has no luck at all with that 18th green wall...

For real? And no one was able to tell him this because it is his responsibility to know the rule??? What a heartbreaker. He surely would have canned the putt from the correct lie.

The rule does make sense though. It would not make sense to move to the drop zone if you were putting from on the green and your disc either rolled out like his or went off the top of the basket and over the wall.

What a great event with awesome coverage.

So did Ricki take a 2 throw penalty for the misplay?

This certainly was not made clear. The rule needs clarification if this is the case.

I've watched events here for many years. I have definitley seen shots bounce off the wall and go OB. I've also seen players "rail-sliding" along the railroad tie that have been given credit for being in bounds. I can't remeber any occasion where these players played from anywhere besides the drop zone.

I would recommend a clear sign be placed at the dropzone explaining this rule or, an extremly educated spotter be placed at the 18th green.

Can you only impagine if Ricky hits that putt and then someone has to tell him he's penalized for taking a shot from the wrong position which is FURTHER away from where he should have played. He had the entire gallery telling him to go to the drop zone. In that moment of competiton a players focus is completely throw off.

Nevertheless it's a great finishing hole

Great job Maple Hill. Dave, you're the man! We followed the coverage from home and it seemed like Maple hill had some bite this weekend. We hated to miss this. Hopefully July 4th weekend is not the new permanent date for this event. Bring back the Frizzaks and Poboys!

Everyone has always played drop zone if the disc goes inbounds on the green then goes out.

you sure about this Dave Jackson?

Its my understanding anytime any player goes OB on 18, even if landing or touching the island in-bounds, that they have to go directly to the drop zone?

I'd be interested to hear Steve weigh in, only because several touring guys have said he played it correctly....

Nate Doss also had a roll-away shot go OB in Round 2 and took his putt from the drop zone.

Even though it didn't pan out in the end for Ricky, he still had one of the most incredible shots of the tournament. After hitting an early tree on his drive on 9 and getting up to the Blue teepad on top of the hill on his second shot, he does this for his third shot:
