Long and understable

Post by Mike Murphy »

I haven't been able to keep up with new discs at all in the past year.

Can someone recommend a good fast, long, and understablish driver?

I had thrown the Groove for a quite a while and tried the Katana a few times but was curious if there is a clear go to now for this sort of thing.

the Tern has made a pretty big splash as far as new molds go, but its not quite as fast as a Katana- however, that makes it easier to act understable without mashing on it

the Crank is understable-ish depending on arm speed and skill. i found it really easy to throw.

and if you're looking for flippy and very fast the Lat 64 Bolt is very understable... but it's not that new. it's been out for 3 years or so.

I'd agree with Jaxon, the Bolt is a speed 13 understable disc with a very nice predictable turn, also if you like Lat 64 plastic, which I do, check out the Vision, it's a bit slower but sick glide and a nice reliable turn as well, don't even think about throwing either of these into a headwind (I learned the hard way). Opto plastic is their version of champion, I find it a tick more stable than Gold line which is their version of star and just down right sexy and very durable. The new prodigy series might also interest you, I have a D4 that I am getting used to, somewhat flippy and may earn a spot in the bag, still need more field work to really get a sense of the flight pattern and characteristics, happy hunting.
I'd be a lot better if those trees didn't get in the way.

The Tern in lighter weights will be pretty flippy. Tremendous glide.

Champion Mamba seems to be the better ones that can do nice anny drive with not too much efforts.

Snap it clean smooth and DON'T force the disc to anny. Let it do its job.

Also Mamba has smaller rim which makes it easy to control than larger rim disc.

I do have beaten Lace in my bag but it's unpredictable in any windy conditions.

Correction - Domey Champion Mamba, not the flat-top Mamba.

The domey ones seems to turn better than flat ones.

175g star sidewinder ... might be the most versatile neutral stability to under-stable disc out there ... might not be as long as a krait, mamba, or tern ... but still incredibly controllable ...

star Sidewinder is a pretty sweet disc indeed - i did however move to mostly Discraft for my driver selection and an ESP Avenger SS took the place of this. Been around for quite some time, it holds up to some wind and seems to be pretty controllable for my throwing style. Granted, i dont have the big arm of many out there but it does get the job done for my distance capability. First-run ESP Crank is also in the bag. Has a tad more fade at the end and can produce a tad more distance as well.

Yep - so many discs out there and waaayy too many colors.....
