Panthorn park, Southington

Post by Matt Pipke »

Hi all.
I wanted to ask / comment about Panthorn.
I went to play it last week and found it to be gone.
I never played it before so I wasnt sure if perhaps I was just not looking hard enough but after about 45 minutes of walking trails and finding painted yellow aluminum fence posts used as markers we decided it must be gone.
No baskets, only partial tee markers left, everything overgrown, etc.. not playable.
I hadnt heard this from anyone and decided to go check out the course as it is close to me.
Any info on this or why it is gone, if it is coming back, etc..?
Any info would be great.
Thanks for any news.info

If you were at panthorn, you need to go to the upper left parking lot behind the lacrosse fields. That is where the disc golf kiosk is and the start of the course is just into the wood line.

Kinda scared me there....:)

LOL, I will go back tomorrow but after playing a dozen new courses I am getting pretty good at finding them and we could not find a single basket, no one knew anything about it and like I said after walking around the trails and all we never saw anything but markers.
I will go back though and see where I went wrong.
Glad to hear it is there if in fact I missed it, I wanted to play it, I hope your right.

There are no yellow aluminum fence posts on or near the disc golf course. Just keep going up and to the left on the road into the park. If you dont see or hear i84 you're not close.

Text me at 203.507.3051 if you have any problems.

Thanks Mike, I didnt go today, I decided to rest my back but I will go tomorrow.

I drove in to the park, all the way to the back, near the basketball courts on the let and playground on the right, I walked to the left before the courts to a bridge and nearby a path heading into the woods, there was a kiosk but nothing about the course, I must have missed the spot, so I will go back and be more careful.
I think tomorrow we go to Norwalk for Cranbury park but if not then I will head to Panthorn to check it out.
Thanks again, I will text you if I cant find it when I get there.
We are trying to hit as many courses as possible this summer as a day trip destination idea, we are on 11 so far with three or four from out of state.

Till you run outta pavement and you are driving on gravel, under the power lines is where we park.

found it, I hadnt been there in years and never to play disc golf, but yeah I forgot about the lacross fields and upper lot by the power lines.
We found it, and it was pretty nice, ni hills, and some really short holes but very playable, pretty clearly marked and not too wet at all.
I had heard from a good friend that he had a terrible time there in April and he wasnt going back, so I was inclined to think it was going to be bad, but it was pretty nice and I am glad we found it.
What is funny, is if you park just past the pond and basketball courts.tennis courts and go in there you will find markers like there was a course there at one point or some other recreational activity so that really threw us off when we were looking.
Played it today, my 11 course in 5 months of playing.

When its wet its prett miserable to play. Only the diehard locals tackle the course in the wet months. In the summer and the freezeing time of winter its a great play. Tell him to give it another change before the fall rains.

Glad you found it and had a good time. Tournament is in september if you wanna test yourself again. :D
