smaller not as visible and costs less

syntheyic material lasts longer than natural material

They sell yellow poly rope that comes on a large spool about 250' worth. Maybe even 4-500' worth. It's a big spool and it yellow and we've used it at maple for years.

how often do you replace it dave?

it seems simple but for long term best cost affective size wanted to know what is holding up out there..also heard some like bright..some like natural colors..i tend to like bright

I'll check the spool today to see more details.
It's about the thickness of "clothesline rope".
We don't replace it very often. It's made of poly-something or other.
It does not fade out very quickly. When it lays in the sun a lot, it fades quicker, but mostly it's in the woods or in the water and has stood up well.

Polypro rope is cheap, very rot resistant (it's basically plastic) and fairly easy to handle when new. It tends to develop splinters after long periods of sun/water exposure but it's not a nasty splinter, just makes it like a bristle brush.

This stuff is wire core and larger diameter than you need, but it would be easy to pick up a spool down in New Bedford. You could also just call them up and get their advice.

I'd expect 3/8" diameter polypro would be perfect for marking OB.

Leaving ropes on the course for long term should be replaced with define rock-lines or stakes or something that defines the lines without needing the ropes.

No sense for leaving ropes for permanent uses. It will fall apart and will tangle up with someone's feet.

I like ropes for tournament plays only.

You have to mark it and rope is far and away the easiest way to do that. Rocks are uneven and stakes offer more of a tripping hazard than bright rope on the ground. Plus it is a lot harder to argue with a rope than some irregular line that casuals arent going to know about. Make it easy for first timers

I'm replacing the string along the embankment at 12 this tourney season with the larger diameter yellow rope, and staking it with tent stakes. Definitely easier to see.

The rip rap areas I'll stay with string. But I'm thinking of laying it deeper into the rocks, maybe 2 meters ..... Gives a disc a chance to pop off the rocks and down to the grass more.

A cheap and semi-permanent staking method is to use 10-12 penny nails through the rope and stuck in the ground. They can be positioned as often as needed to define the OB line and they make it easy to change the line later if required.

We bought a shtton of bright pink surveyor string for the OB at buff. But this is only for tourneys (not permanent installation). Even tho it's string the neon pink is very visible.
