Interest in New Course: Wompatuck State Park. Hingham, MA

Post by Greenleaf Garrison »

Apparently a group of golfers approached them a while back. The park was interested, but there was no follow up. A person who is on the Friends of Wompatuck says that they are still interested in pursuing a disc golf course in the park. Is there anyone out that way that would be interested in heading up this venture? It would be a start from the beginning proposal. I have contact info for those seriously interested.

It is a gorgeous park. I live in Weymouth, and those living around me know that a round of disc golf requires about a 90-minute round trip commute. This would halve that drive and add to the park's amenities, which already include camping, safe, rolling bike-worthy roads, and canoeing. I will contact you Greenleaf. Thanks!!

No question there are many on the South Shore without a course within 30 minutes that will support this, myself included!

All the interest sounds great, Eric Wilson has reached out to me. I think you all should team up to tackle this. Email me and I can get you Eric's email so you can all coordinate.

I remember back when we first proposed a course at Wompatuck. We even formed a team for the TC called Team Wompatuck for one season. We did a proposal to the friends group as well as the park supervisor and it was well received. David Farf Good (Deaf Disc golfer) was actually the lead on the proposal back then. The friends took us on a tour of some land they considered suitable for a course...it was a nice mix of woods with small fields interspersed and an access road cutting through. It was a part of the park where ATV/illegal camping/partying was an issue. The only problem with that area was that it was a real hike from the nearest parking lot, but it did have a lot of potential. Hopefully, this time, the proposal will receive more follow up...we were a rather loosely assembled group back then.

Certainly plenty of precedent established with disc golf on DCR lands....Borderland, Vineyard, Nantucket. Hope this pans out!!

Drew,
I copied you on a group email. Hopefully you can share a power-point with them that can give a rough draft for a proposal?

Drew - let me know what you have or don't have handy, I still have the old
John's Pond power point proposal we used as a template to create the one

Hey Jim,

I actually created a new powerpoint for the Sandwich course proposal....some of the panes are all about the CC Disc Golf Club but it can be edited easily to reflect a new proposal
