the fun factor of keeping them split would be situations where the ace pot gets really high on the general which is pretty likely. Like if general ace pot gets to 250, and hill ace pot is 50 or something, it would be fun to have that choice, play early for the chance at the big pot or play the hill for the more likely but smaller ace pot. Seems like that scenerio would happen alot if kept apart since there are so many aces on the hill and i think ive heard of only one or two on the general. Im sure there are good reasons for combining them also. Love the handicap idea to deal with scores Luke. hopefully you get to play the general a few times yourself.

Thanks for the feedback Doug. I think I have decided on one pot for both courses and capping pots at $250. I didn't really want there to be a rush towards one course or another based on the ace pot.

Weather is looking solid for tomorrow nights league, finally! Anyone else think we can top 70 players? I sure do.. Tee off is at 5pm

Superb night at Devens for league! We hit a new record high of 74 players. I am quite scared of what is going to happen when we get to the 5:30 starts. Weather was fantastic we we got our first and second aces of the season! Nat Fairbanks hit his first career ace on hole 9 and Bob Kulchuk nailed hole 17 to split the large pot.

Hole assignments for The General didn't work very well. Here is what we are going to try next week. Let me know if you have any other ideas.

We are sending up to 33 people max out on The General. Will send out groups to hole 1 in groups of 3, then hole 12 in groups of 3, then hole 9 in groups of 3 then hole 14 in groups of 3. The first 9 people will start on 1, then the next 9 on hole 12, ect. You will receive a hole assignment AND a group # and a tee time. Group 1 will start 10 minutes before the general tee time, group 2 will start 5 minutes before the generals tee time and group 3 will start on time with the generals tee time (STILL 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE HILL).
So you check in and tell me you want the general, I tell you that you are on hole 1 in group 1 with a tee time of 10 minutes early.

I can't think of any better way other than spreading the holes out more and that is just cruel! I need to get you checked into my spreadsheet with a hole assignment in under 30 seconds in order to get everyone checked in and out to their hole on time so all cooperation in appreciated.

I'll be using an air horn next week to avoid another false start..

ACES (worth additional point in standings & $$)
Nat Fairbanks - Hole 9 (First Ace!)
Bob Kulchuk - Hole 17

They split a $260ish pot

Ace pot at $0

Well, I don't know what to say anymore.. The forecast was not good, looked like solid rain for at least half the round with some pretty bad wind and 73 people still came out to play. We were all rewarded with just a few drops of rain! It was definitely windy though, especially during the first few holes.

Air horn start worked well and so did the trickle start off the General with 4somes and new starting hole assignments. I'll probably keep that all going as long as it continues to work. Basically, the General hole assignments work as follows. Check in, wait for a 4some to form and then you all go out together and start your round. No stringent start time aside from the firm cutoff of 15 minutes before the Hill start. When you check in for the General, don't wander too far away from check in area so you can be ready to go when the group is formed.

414 total player over the first 7 weeks. That is an average of 59+ per night. This matches our average from last year even when you consider we haven't had a 5:30 start yet. Fantastic!

105 tags sold and 110 unique players have been part of the league. There are some that have bought a tag and not played yet but the # of people playing who bought a tag is way up this year. Thank you for your support of the courses!!

Lord Luke of Devens,

I propose

the top x finishers of devens, tully, and maybe that ugly lil cousin cogs all meet towards fall and hash it out

rt2dgc will never die!

discuss?

cogs and tully will obey

edit,

maybe towards end a cutoff of top finishers that doesn't matter for league finish but for this affair, then one night all the winners pick a course maybe even random they meet play..all the non cut peeps go to other league that week

yeah would be easy enough

as tully and devens is wedz
and cogs is Monday
weekends are packed

maybe some Monday towards end meet in middle at cogs
this will stimulate them and deal with a date to book it
possible to want them to be included

cuz in all reality it would maybe top 10 A and B poolers from each or something
that would be at most 60 and I would think that could be done one round league format as it is based from league so why make it some 2 round thang kinda thought process

anyways LMK easy enough to do
would help start tying us all in
great bragging rights
it could evolve

cool

League is on The Hill AND The General every week. You pick your course when you sign in.

Please note that The General cut off is at 5:15 and we send out 4somes via a trickle start. If you show up at the last second and don't have a group of at least 2 (preferably 3 or 4) than you would have to play The Hill. We also cut off The General at 36 players whenever that happens. The most so far has been 20 players on that course so hasn't been an issue yet.

Another great showing and record broken at Devens league. We had 75 players join us on a nice night! No wind for a change!

Air horn start worked well again and so did the trickle start off the General with 4somes and new starting hole assignments. Since we only use holes 1, 12 & 9 for The General it is important that you not let groups gather at the tee and wait until 5:15 to start teeing off. That kinda negates the early start time.

Two changes that you should be aware of. First, the # of players in the C pool has been very high compared to years prior. Initially, I had set a top 3 payout for C pool given the # of players but it turns out the payouts are too high due to the high # of players so I decided to pay out top 5 instead of top 3. C pool will still receive points only for the top 3 since that isn't fair to change mid season. Another temporary change is with the handicap for B pool. Something odd is going on within this pool and the scores on the hill vs general are not varied at all so the handicap is very small. It seems like people in B pool are less apt to play the general given a small handicap. I believe that the handicap will adjust over time but need players on the general to do so. I have adjusted the B pool handicap to 4 until it normalizes. I'll monitor and chance back to actual when necessary. Womens pool still has no data for handicap so have manually set that handicap to 5.

489 total player over the first 8 weeks. That is an average of 61+ per night.

113 tags sold and about 120 unique players have been part of the league. There are some that have bought a tag and not played yet but the # of people playing who bought a tag is way up this year. Thank you for your support of the courses!!

$100.00 Added Payout for 100 Players!

Attendance at league has exploded over the last month or so and we would like to announce that the first time we reach the 100 player mark this year we will give away an additional $100 in payout.

We will distribute it evenly amongst all divisions so $25 each to all 4 pools.

When will it happen?

We had 74 players on a nice night. A little cool and breezy but otherwise great!

Couple of reminders that really would help me in making this league run a bit smoother:

If playing The General, please wait until your full group is formed and head out to your starting hole together. One slight hiccup here and a lot of adjustments to the hole assignment board and spreadsheet are needed. Not fun when there is a line of 10 people.

Please use full names on the score cards and also please make sure you use the name that you check in with on the card. We waste a lot of time at the end of the night trying to figure out who is who on the score cards and full/real names would be immensely helpful. I'm sorry to keep repeating myself here but it's a constant problem that should be easily fixed.

We had 2 aces last night. Peter Simone hit hole 2 on his first throw of the night and Marc Duci nailed hole 9. They split $228.

645 total player over the first 10 weeks. That is an average of 64.5 per night.

125 tags sold and about 137 unique players have been part of the league. There are some that have bought a tag and not played yet but the # of people playing who bought a tag is way up this year. Thank you for your support of the courses!!

For those who haven't heard. We are putting up an additional $100 to the payout the first time we hit 100 players. Will it be next week? With good weather I think so!!

It is so awesome being part of the Devens DG community. Luke is an amazing leader. From the strong roots that John Borelli planted to the towering tree that is the Devens league, it is a sight to behold. And it grows and grows. To think, we had 74 players at last Wednesday's league night and that was a DECREASE from the previous week. Incredible.
