Re: Inflated ratings
Was that back when people were playing in the world championships while holding their bags in one hand and shooting with the other? I wonder why there were so few highly ranked pros

Re: Inflated ratings
1000 definitely seemed to make sense when ssa was created. maybe better discs and players these days have bumped the number up?

Re: Inflated ratings
There's no reason to change the standard. Ideally, you want to keep the standard the same, unless there's a compelling reason to change it, so you have a long term reference for statistical comparisons. There are several courses that haven't changed other than tree growth since 1998 and the same SSA +/-0.7 is produced at their events year after year. That's one way to confirm that the ratings system isn't drifting higher or lower.
Only 280 players (not all current) have a 4-digit rating so the SSA value has been exceeded by very few players.

Re: Inflated ratings
yes it's nice to have a consistent method to track stats over time.
would be nice to get rid of the 50-under scores too. although that's probably not at the top of the priority list, and rightfully so.

I think at this point, the 50-under stuff is just ingrained in disc golf. It goes back to when every course was "par 54" and even the toughest courses were still deuce-or-die style courses.

Re: Inflated ratings
There's no required direct linkage between Par and SSA. So the perceived "par problem" can be improved without fooling with SSA.

Is that true? They both reference each other in their definitions.
Par: The pre-determined number of strokes that a scratch golfer should require to complete a hole/round/event. (ref)
Scratch Golfer: Golfer whose average score for a round of golf is par or better. (ref)
SSA: Average score of Scratch Golfers.
They seem directly intertwined, using traditional meanings. But maybe disc golf has gradually taking on different definitions of these terms .....

Good point. I like the 50 under stuff. But I don't like the reaction I get when I explain it to a ball golfer lol

Re: Inflated ratings
Those were ball golf references. We have course layouts where the par is set based on the skill level of the players. So the par from the Red tees might be 60 but the SSA of that layout might come in at 46 for 1000 rated "scratch" players. Note that the ball golf definition of par is not correct because their pars are also set based on the player skill level intended to play a set of tees. Either that or their word 'scratch' can also be applied to zero handicap women, seniors and juniors in addition to the scratch men.

Gotta wait until all the scores are entered. I hope he ends up on top after day one but it looks like Nikko killed it.

Crazy Europeans, hosting a Major and not having any live coverage or at least hole by hole scoring. Where is Steve Dodge?

It looks like they will have hole by hole scoring today.
