Re: Disc Golf Mantras
For putting: "This is a missable putt." Keeps me focused on seemingly gimme putts.
For drives I go back to my days as a diver in college. Step up to the tee, see the line I want and then "1, 2, 3, go!"

Re: Disc Golf Mantras
Right before I putt, "Drive for show, putt for dough". Seems to help keep everything in perspective.
Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that disc getting bigger?". Then it hits me.

Re: Disc Golf Mantras
It's funny, the downhill ski's I use all winter long are Volkl (company) Mantra (model). I always find myself thinking while skiing and constantly reminding myself to not be a pu$$y.
I guess that is one of my mantra's: don't be a puss.
Trying to psych yourself up can work wonders. Get the adrenaline flowing. Eliminate doubt from the equation. Hammer that biatch.
All positive, no negative... Crush it.

Pretty negative angle, from a teacher nonetheless. Did you ever think of adjusting it to a positive message?
Mine is more of a Bill Cower face. Get a deep breath, focus on the line, practice the release a couple times and heighten the concentration with a "take that, you motherf*****" face. Now I realize that could be construed as negative as well, but it's more like pulling the trigger on an evil adversary. Kinda like Dirty Harry's "well, are you feeling lucky?"

Re: Disc Golf Mantras
I use 2 steps during putting to isolate my focus. I learned this from Dave Pelz' Putting Bible.
The Routine:
1 Evaluate the conditions: distance, wind, elevation, obstacles, landing areas near the basket... 2 Choose a putt. 3 Set stance. 4 Practice it until it feels right. 5 Go directly to ritual.
The Ritual:
6 Sing a song with the right rhythm for my throw today. This helps get me into the same natural groove every time, and isolates me from the outside world. 7 Look at the spot on the basket the disc will hit. 8 Back swing. 9 Throw... 10 Hold position and watch entire throw.
Did I get lucky?
Luck plays a big role. Many times a great throw is unlucky. It was still a great throw. Do not change your putt because it is not producing. Keep repeating the Routine and the Ritual.

Don't think, just throw.
It ain't the disc, it's the throw.

I just came back to this thread to see if anyone caught that yet. Of course that is not a mantra I use!!
Karl "The Mailman" Malone used to mumble to himself every time he shot free throws and that is what my friends and I used to imagine him saying before every free throw.

"closer then i was"
"i have to urinate" seems that taking a leak or crap before the round always keeps me focused.
