My wife spoke with a local dental hygienist who used to take her children to Tully to hike and walk around but now feels like she can't because of all the loud F Bombs, blatant drunkenness and open groups of pot smoking people. I know, I know, weed is "almost legal" now, but I think the woman has a point. She also talked about the ridiculous amounts of trash and cigarette butts everywhere.
I know at flatrock a week does not go by where i don't have to tell one person or another to "stop with the loud f-bombs", or be a little more discreet, with the substance use. I get tired of it honestly. I know some who read this will think i'm preaching to the coir but really, we have a certain responsibility here folks ! How many of us have ever confronted a loud swearer ? Who has said something to a blatant weed smoker who's in full visibility of the general public ? how many of us enable our annoyingly drunk golfer buddies ?
I know one thing. I am going to have my hands full here at flatrock once Tully starts charging and all the D-bags start coming to flatrock to try to get away with playing without paying their daily membership. Guaranteed i will be picking up more butts and trash etc.

Re: new but old discretion topic
yeah,
I remember tully when just a few of us roamed the Dg course, it was great
I used to have an unrealistic reality that tully would not become what other ACOE properties evolved to.
It really was just a matter of time. We grew the sport but never educated the public on the E word...let you spell it you have had practice lol
We tried but failed somewhere along the lines.
I know speaking personally DG used to be an outlet to release anger. More just chucking plastic with aggression then actual golf.
Golf not a great plan to vent anger as it is so counter productive.
So my relief of stress transitioned more to working out there, then you reach a point of anger when people don't help or even worse destroy what was done.
Personally it left me in this strange state mind, and eventually you have to face that anger and develop it to focus, motivation. Find out the things that make you happy.
I think the smoke thing comes from an age old feud well if you are gonna drink then hey I am gonna smoke type of thing and the lax feel of late has def accelerated that.
The butts...wowzer it is frankly just insane, but as I have stated in the past we the DG'ers can't be held totally liable for that prob getting out of hand, if the rangers in charge had written one single littering violation at any ACOE property over the years it would have went a long way.
They complain but have an avenue to help with that and simply don't take the methods to help strike a level of fear to these people.
Speaking from having worked on the other side of tully this year the REC area....It is not just the DG'ers wowzer trash is insane, but ya know what the rangers clean it 2x a day...they pay for contractors to clean, fix things. The trash left from fisherman is down right dangerous.
The poop is disgusting. The trails are littered. Heck the farmers up the road discharged large amounts of waste into the lake, the campground in north royalston has the septic leeching into rivers that flow to the lake. In ten years I have never seen one volunteer cleanup then anyone but the DG'ers on the entire property. Everyone elses area is paid to be maintained while the DG'ers must volunteer and then they stripped of us volunteer compensation for permits. Heck Karl has at least helped clean up our leeching plastic from the lake over the years never once seen a fisherman clean the shores of bait containers, line, hooks, etc , KD cleaned 300lbs of Dog crap off of hole 1 at one point in one day before they scrammed....that all went to other places it didn't just leave
So while I agree, Just wanted to point out the flip side and there are many other issues I won't speak about online, some are down right degrading to DG'ers
The thing I would have expressed to her is that it is not a DG thing it is a general public thing since the bling bling era faded to brokenness that place exploded with no real plan for the growth, all after thoughts and not very good ones
I will say in the history of DG 1 single person and one person only have I ever witnessed take those sometimes hard steps to educate people,FRANCHI
hey sometimes people may take it the wrong way heck I may have at one time over the years but I will say the scolding sets into the mind and the next time you feel like calling your errant throw every name in the book, you think to that day and reserve it to at least a mumble.
So **** you franch and Thankyou lol
Now Franch,
If you have ever been to Silver Lake take a look at the parking area, there is literally so many beer caps the tar is fused with medal caps, they used to flick them from the field into the lots for fun it was standard. Many of these beer league softball players have all transitioned to DG. It is much easier to grab a group to play DGb then have 20 players for softball not to mention the injuries etc...
Take a look at the front of any bar around here until the owner cleans, pure butts at entrances.
If you look around it is everywhere
I am not sure if it is totally just a demographic around here issue or if it is really just a crappy human issue everywhere
I tend to think it is just a crappy human issue everywhere
What can we do?
We never really educated the people around here on DG we told them all about how to throw the disc but we never really spoke about how to carry those disc...and most of us(self included) didn't demonstrate it or fully understand it until it was tooo late
well I had my 5 minutes from playing barbies, a good rant is worth what prob would have just been chain smoking a CIG in the cold...so thanks you saved my lungs!

Re: new but old discretion topic
Im at Crane everyday because I have no life evidently but, the people that are showing up at the course lately are really getting on my nerves.
Im not the kind of person to say ...hey would you please not throw your empty cans into the woods... would you please not flick your cigarette on the ground at the 1st tee.... would you please not swear so loud because the neighbors across the street can hear you... nope...I usually say hey ..dont be an a.....hole.. Some get it some dont .... most get the message
whatever

Steve's not only got a life but a vocation-- the resident proprietor and back-bone of Crane Hill. All of us who play there are lucky.
Chain bondage is good.

I am dealing with similar kucka-poo Sean.
Sucks when I have to tell people to act right on the course. Kinda hate that part of my job, but I do it regardless, because those people need to hear it.
Flatrock is a sanctuary bud, people should treat it as such or get the eff out. Same goes for Maple.
wish I knew how to weed out the dinks.
